It's not good that the rear nearside indicator cover got broken, looking via a small screen at the mo so can't see anything else - hopefully that was it.
It looks worse than that to me I'm afraid. The (non-standard) front Tour de Corse bumper has been crunched back on its brackets. Hopefully this hasn't damaged the glass-fibre "safety cell" tube in the front which strengthens the car in a front ender. From the photos I think that will be OK and a bit of remedial bracket bending should sort the bumper out. I had to replace the front bumper on my old one when I forgot to apply the handbrake / leave in gear after putting it in the garage and it rolled across the passageway into the wall opposite! The rear bumper has also been crunched as can be seen from the fasteners jutting out. These used to be bespoke fixings, but were available a few years ago when I needed some. The trouble is that the impact may have damaged the fibre-glass at the fixings holes on either/both bumpers, which is what killed my front bumper and led me to source a good second-hand replacement.
I think the smashed rear light is standard R5 so should be easy to replace. The dented hatchback should be a relatively easy fix for a bodyshop.
However all of these minor issues add up to a big hassle (inc. re-spraying) which the scumbag thieves have left the OP to sort out. I bet he feels violated, but I wish him all the best in getting it back to how he wants it!
Some damage but you have the car back.
Regarding the R5T2 I only have two things to say
1/ Who ever designed those front indicators should be fking shot, and I really do mean that, they are truly truly fking awful
2/ This is one of the very very few cars that would stop me in my tracks so I could listen and watch it.
The last one I saw on the road was driving down Piccadilly in about 1990. It was Red.

thsnks for comments guys
I found a rear light on Fleabay. TDC bumper n/s spotlight is smashed so will need to find one of those. Mecaparts in France stock a fair amount of stuff & the prices are not too mad (unlike 3S developments...!)
I'll get it up on a lift & have a good look at the bumpers & GRP tube. Hopefully good news!

thanks fella you have obviously been there. Exactly that - minor stuff that adds up to a fair bit of work. I'm too old & ugly to be violated but certainly had better things to do with my time. The engine & turbo were heading towards needing a rebuild anyway....can't imagine these guys let the turbo warm down :/The rear bumper has also been crunched as can be seen from the fasteners jutting out. Best of luck with repairs. Just don't understand who would go to trouble of stealing such a rare car then damage it. What's the point!?
I was just thinking the same thing. Though people who steal things aren't blessed with high intelligence anyway, so it likely didn't enter their minds that carelessness could potentially affect profitability. Of course the other possibility is that the thieves had no intention of selling it on and just wanted to have a go for an evening, then dumped it when they were done. Automotive rapists, essentially.

Silly question time, how does it work with insurance when dealing with stolen-recovered classic cars? do they pay out a fixed to repair the damage caused in this instance? or do you invoice them until it is in the same condition as before
I've no idea I'm afraid, I will be fixing it myself. The insurance company would be no help whatsoever in this situation IMHOEdited by jamesy12345 on Tuesday 8th September 13:39
