I've been with Swiftcover for a few years now. Previously, when I've bought a car and changed the plate from the original registration number to my own, I've never been charged as I've done it online and avoided any admin charges.

This time, I've been charged £6.90 and they've still proudly announced that I have avoided any admin fees. Therefore, this £6.90 seems to cover an increased risk until the end of the policy term which is December. How can a different registration number cause an increased risk?!?!

Statistics. Maybe more cars with personal plates make claims or suffer more accidents?

Perhaps you're right but on the previous occasions I've changed registration number, I've never been charged.

Prices amd pricing policies change fairly frequently. Maybe they've changed since the last time you did this m

Swiftcover's business model is to be the cheapest then charge the moon for any changes/ extras.

I just found out, that cover only includes the UK! (Always thought you where covered throughout Europe as standard!

Extra £35 for 2 weeks!

You are covered throughout Europe 365/365 to the minimum prescribed level in the EU (ie 3rd party).

When UK policies advertise 'two weeks EU cover' etc, that is simply a 'top-up' to the higher level of TPFT or FC, depending on your policy.

UK insurers will never, ever tell you.... but if you are happy to be insured TP only, off you go, essentially for as long as you like (discarding the potential issues you might have with how you answered residence etc during the policy creation).....
Given that very few people buy TPF&T cover nowadays let alone TPO, I doubt many would choose to forego the cover they'd normally have at home for driving on the left and the side they're used to. Heading to the continent and driving in the right is quite possibly more likely to result in you needing FC cover than usual.

I did not know that, thanks. My FC policies have usually included a limited FC period, 14 days or such like, which has always been sufficient for the odd EU jaunt, so never been an issue.

When I am Evil Emperor I will decree that all those who have personal number plates will be charged a kabillion bucks for insurance (each week).

When my mother died her car came to me as part of her estate. The personal plate on it was her purchasing decision not mine.
Why should I have to go through the faff of changing it to avoid your Evil Emperor charges?

Just think of the rebate. It'll really mess my evil insurance company up, as we'll have already spent the premium on trendy cupcakes and washed up Hollywood actors.
