Air induction pipe, anyone been creative?
Discussion
I've been looking at the ACT air induction pipe from air filter to elbow, comes with a bit of fabric heat shield.
It's nice enough but has anyone made or found any other piping solutions that work and that shine
My thinking is the rubber gets really hot anyway, why not go for a polished Alley one for instance.
It's going to get very hot but will it make that much difference to the air rushing in?

I made up my own air intake pipe using a combination of pipes from Auto Silicone Hoses. All 76mm bore and connected to a large KN filter (RC2530).
From memory it is 90 bend, connected to a 500mm straight, to a 15 degree bend down to the bulkhead. There is then a 45 and 60 degree bend which puts the air filter at the top of the nose cone right behind the grill. The filter has a threaded stud on the end of it which makes it easy to mount in the nose of the car, using a small bracket.
I had to enlarge the hole in the bulkhead to get the pipes through easily.
I got a long length of 76mm outer metal tube from ASH and cut it in to 50mm lengths for the joining pipe, which worked out a lot cheaper than buying ready cut 50mm sections.
Worked out to be about £140 including the filter.
Here are only photos I can find right now.
It took me about 5 hours to get all the pipes cut to the right length and arranged in the right order and orientation. Factoring in the time it would have been cheaper to just get the ACT kit, although they never responded to my email asking for information about the air intake pipes. Regardless of cost, I like the solution I have in place, and it seems to work well.

All very nice solutions indeed
Maybe vanity has got the better of me, any form of metal and it's going to get sooo hot!
I'll see if I can get the correct dia in the black powers Silicone piping to suit my elbow, if not I'll just go with the ACT one me thinks,, it's practical and looks hard wearing etc.

I used a selection of alloy pipes from auto silicone hoses, a fair bit of cutting, offering up & trimming but managed to use 90mm from air filter through to AFM then had to drop to 76mm past supercharger & into secondary plenum. I even managed to trim down a 76mm 90 degree bend into the standard plenum. I left Dom with a length of alloy pipe to use when the AFM comes out.
It can be done Alun, it just takes a bit of time & patience. Can't post any pictures as am in Crete drinking them dry of gin!

The more I look at it the more I can't be arsed. It's good to see some effective solutions but the ACT one will do the job it's designed for and as I don't need elbow that keeps the cost down.
Cheers for the input and pics chaps, very nice.
There's nothing shoddy in that engine bay Peter as well you know
