I have just done my good deed for the day and rescued this little chap from a friends greenhouse. Just wondered if anyone knew what it is?

It just seemed a little larger than your average British moth.

I think it could be an "Essex Y" although looks a bit bedraggled.

The poor thing was caught in a large spiders web. Once it had been freed it eventually flew off.

Some hawk moths are massive, almost the size of a small bird, if you look at the body and under wing with the wings spread, it can make it easier to identify exactly.

It's got a great alien's face on it's back.
