A strange one hear. One of our company laptops (fairly new Dell) works perfectly when at our head office. However, when taken to site (we are a building contractor) the cursor has a mind of its own and moves randomly round the screen. The laptop is connected to a wireless router and is being used with the integral trackpad. It has been patched with the latest BIOS version.

Any ideas, or do I need to call in a priest?

It does, although as far as we know nobody was connected. The way the cursor moves, however, is just as if somebody was connected remotely.

I have seen this before when two computers were using the same model of wireless mice/keyboards near each other.. random mouse movements and typing ensued.I note that you specifically say you are using the trackpad and so are probably not using a bluetooth/USB wireless mouse.

I'd pass it on to an IT person to scan the hard drive for malicious software, check the laptop logs etc.

Do you have restrictions on your office Internet connection that might prevent a remote person from controlling the laptop - restrictions that are not in place at the site?

If you want to try something immediately and you know when this started, you might try running System Restore and restoring the computer system files back to a date when the problem did not exist.
