As above, my Grandfather was an avid collector of Lledo (and other) die cast models. Days Gone, Vanguard etc.

He collected at a guess over 1500 models. He died in 2007 and the models were packed into lots of storage boxes.

There are various promotional models, buses, trucks, steam trucks horse drawn vehicles, cars etc. There are others too, Corgi models and such.

What is the best way to deal with them? My Gran ideally would like to sell them, but I can only think of ebay, which would be a full time job! I don't know what they are worth, some seem to sell for a few pounds, others for much more.

I would try a specialist toy auction if you want them gone with minimum fuss.

Sorry for the loss of your grandfather.

I don't know where you are based, but Vectis area specialist toy/train auction house, so it might be worth contacting them?

There will be some worth next to nothing - pennies (literally) - There may also be some worth quite a bit, due to rarity values (eg the Royal Mail collection - half a dozen models in a set - £100 - £150)

As long as you get two or three valuations on the collection, you stand less chance of an unscrupulous dealer trying to make a killing

You have to bear in mind whoever buys them is buying them to make money , as a job lot they'll be worth a lot less than individual sales

Why not find out which are worth money, eBay those and sell the rest as a job lot

Or if you want a quick sale as said above take them to a toy auction

You could talk to Transport Models in Preston http://www.transportmodels.co.uk/contact_us.php, they might be interested, and aren't that far from West Yorkshire.

Thank you for the replies all.

I think based on what you have said, the first step we are going to have to do is bite the bullet and catalogue everything we have and take it from there.

No easy task, so it may be some time before I post again!

If I may be so bold.

Photos. Lots of photos for us and more importantly to show potential buyers. Do it right. Do it once.

You don't have to learn it the hard way biggrin
