Maybe 10% ? No need to spend much in options IMO. Keep the 18' and fit Cup 2s for £500 all round. Job done.

Just had look on Autotrader. 6-month old 265 Cup's with Recaro's are looking stonkingly good value at less than £20k!

Just been playing on a broker site, the usual massive discounts are still available on the earlier models. The Trophy with the Ohlins dampers and metallic added is £26.5k new.

I had a 250 with cup pack from new, owned for 5 years. It's an awesome car and those slating them who haven't driven one can jog on- they're amazing and great value. They hold their own on the road or track against more expensive cars.
Build quality has moved on massively as Frimley111 said, and with regards to reliability, they're no different from VW, MINI etc, they all have issues, in fact the Meganes I would say had an excellent reputation on the forums.
Oh and they aren't built at Dieppe, it's built in Spain which did worry me but that was unfounded.
I replaced it with an Exige S as I felt I'd 'done' FWD but I wouldn't rule out coming back in a few years to see what the geniuses at Renaultsport come up with.
With regards to ride quality I also have a Twingo 133 with Cup pack that feels much harder than the Meg with 19's and Cup was. It's seriously uncomfortable and that's coming from a lotus owner now lol. The Meg is lovely and not at all crashy as you might imagine. Spot on, got a lot of love for the RS's...

I hope to god Renault don't get caught out for cheating the system on emissions like VW and Audi! biggrin

Really like these new Meganes, and when you compare them to the competition (Golf R / Civic Type R / Focus RS / BM's) they are especially good VFM.

I do think the Golf R is a nice car, but it's just a bit boring and uninspiring.
New Civic - again a cool car, but not sure on the particularly aggressive styling.
Focus RS - really like these but they're expensive.
BMW M355i (or whatever it is) again a good car but it just looks like a rep mobile to me and therefore does not interest me. And it's expensive.

I find it amusing that some people are whining about about the 'plain' dashboard in the Megane. I think it's nice, simple, and inoffensive. Who needs chrome and all that gaudy expression of ostentatiousness, which ultimately plays no part in how enjoyable the car is to drive? As long as it has those lovely recaros and a nice steering wheel, I could take or leave the rest of the fancy bits. Some people clearly do not 'get' the Renaultsport philosophy....

Unless it is a company car/lease thing, why would anyone buy a Renault when you can get a very similar VW or Honda ?

You can argue till the coww come home about slight differences in the chassis or engines, but once you factor in build quality and reliability (arguably respectively, VW,Honda) the Renault is nowhere.
Your build quality perceptions are out of date. I have an RS265 and it feels very solid, build quality across all the main manufacturers has come a long way in the last few years. I also drove 3 higher mileage RS250 models (around 50k on the clock) before buying mine and tbh they didn't fell any different to mine with 12k on the clock.

VW reliable ? You must be the last person here to think that. Slight differences ? It will take you a couple of miles to appreciate how resolved and neutral the Megane's chassis is. Or maybe it wouldn't actually.
In the cruellest of ironies, I am now frequently behind the wheel of a new Megane, its a company car in fairly basic spec and around a year old. Yes, it has some nice looking interior plastics, the seats are comfortable and I like the cloth....

But, the plastics are thin and surely not too durable, the sculpted door traps my knee with the steering wheel and the electrical systems are already on drugs. 10 minutes ago the central locking stopped working and in a half hour journey the stop/start system was playing up.

Renault's may be better than they were, some of the mechanical parts may well be good, but it is nowhere close to VAG in interior quality and I can only reiterate my original point that they are not comparable to some of the opposition as a private purchase prospect. Given Honda's almost perfect reliability and build quality I would love to hear any sane reasoning for buying the Renault.

Stop/Start playing up as in saying it's inactive? It'll do that if the battery charge isn't sufficient or (in the diesel) if a regen is in progress amongst other reasons so if that's the case don't be too quick to call it faulty.

Ive had my 2009 1.6i Megane Coupé for 2 years now and it hasn't put a foot wrong electrically nor mechanically.

Admittely when i did purchase it I was worried and was listening out for anything that sounded like it was going wrong. (Parents had a Renault 5 when i was younger that was diabolical in engineering and electrics) But it has been a fantastic car and has never let me down, its been on a French road trip of nearly a 1000 miles in 30 degree heat and has been my daily driver to and from work in all weather conditions. Would I buy a Megane RS if i had the money?

Hell yes I would!

Not bad at all, but when you can get one with no options for a shade over £20k through a broker I'd probably take that route instead.

Agreed - which broker is that ? I can see it at £21,209 on autoebid but not lower anywhere.
