E70 X5M - Good or bad?

I am contemplating purchasing a 2010 E70 X5M for family duties/dog carrying and have a test drive lined up at my local BMW dealer later this week.

If I'm honest it's the S63 engine that is attracting me and it seems like it could be an interesting car to run for a while - I am not expecting M3/M5 handling but want something that will work in all seasons with some grunt.

I know these had a bad press when they were launched but I am keen understand if anyone has any experience of running one on daily basis and what I should look out for in terms of failures.

The bad press was over whether it was right for there to be such an M car (SUV, automatic). I sympathise with that criticism, but it's a great car if you ignore that.
