Doesn't sound like it really needs paint, just a buff of the bonnet.

The non working electric seat is the biggest concern you might not fit behind the wheel to drive it home, or be able to reach the pedals, lol.

If anyone comes to buy it, i probably live 30 min away, so come and visit me please.
Most likely the switch needs taking apart and spraying with contact cleaner and reassembling.

I remember taking apart a switch for an E32 wing mirror, now where did those 1mm balls go, lol, luckily enough between the new spare one i purchased, no idea where the ones in the original switch were.

Does sound like a very high spek ( wink ) car though, someone will be happy with that.

The cars being sold, the area being harrogate where lots of older people go to retire and the lack of cars sold in the ebay history, give this a bit of a selling on inherited cars vibe. Especially when the seller mentions "I had my first day at secondary school in her"

I really like it, and hope someone buys it. I can't, otherwise engaged over the next few weeks etc.

Of course the 4 door W124 is the best - lighter and stiffer than the other variants smile and the 300 engine is really robust, sounds nice when revved, and 4 speed box is a long lasting unit.

The front looks a bit low to me in this picture

I know what you mean but when you can find cars just a couple of months older which are over £200 less a year to tax, it's a factor. The second car linked above isn't any pricier (OK, it's not a T5 but it has fewer miles) and it avoids the £500 VED.
£490 vs £290 is not over £200 a year.
Correct, it's exactly £200 a year - this year. The gap will be wider next year. But £490 isn't the highest VED rate; and if you compare monthly direct debit payments, the difference is in fact over £200 a year.

Remind me again what your point was?

Just been to see this 2004 330 petrol S211: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

What's the 320 petrol like as an ownership proposition?
What was it like to view? Did you get the warm and fuzzy feeling? Does that one have the perforated cooled/heated seats?

I don't think that was the model's latest update - didn't that come in 2006(?) - but I think the model had significantly improved by this stage anyway.

From the research I did, the petrols are a decent proposition. Around 25-ish mpg overall, sensible tax and insurance was very reasonable. I reckon that one looks OK.
I did like the car, it seemed much better cared for internally than the one I saw at the weekend.

Google suggests the M112 engine and the transmission are solid.

The published extra-urban figure of 37.2 isn't so far from the diesel's 42.2 and my mileage is low.

It doesn't have heated or ventilated seats which we're not concerned about but does have memory on both front seats which is handy as my wife and I are different sizes.

It does have the harman kardon audio which is good. It also has airmatic suspension which might be bad.

Looks like the missing centre rear headrest is currently available on eBay for £35

I'll give my indie a call in the morning and check in with the vendor's indie and see how I feel after that.

I'd say my W124 saloon (when it had front suspension) was that height, upon buying standard springs from mercedes they looked through the warehouse for a paint code match to the current ones and realised it was actually on sportline springs, the rear on that one looks pretty high to me, pretty sure mine was lower.

This gives me an uneasy feeling of things to come after I've gone (hopefully in many years!) - my eldest daughter writing an eBay ad for the 124 cabriolet, trying to sound positive about being dropped off at school occasionally in a then 20 year old car while inwardly recalling the indignity her cruel, but now departed, father imposed on her. I'd love to think of her polishing it lovingly while reflecting on times past, but.....

I do keep coming back to these. Just add boost and bikes.
If / when my E39 Tourer breaks, that is exactly the sort of thing I'd be looking for as a quick replacement. I have a smallish Bork fund, and it would cover the purchase and insuring of that, whilst I liquidated a broken E39.

The trick with Barging is knowing when to end the life of one, and adopt a new one into the family, hopefully this won't be for a while yet, but good to know what the options are.

I think I'm coming to that point at the end of the year with my 540iT. Its only done circa 1500 miles this year, and it really isn't worth my spending to get it back up to a decent level when I don't use it. Its not like its a heap, but it needs a few bushes and the like.
I fancy chopping it in for a X5 or XC90 I think, then I can combine with a fruity little runaround as my current fleet are too similar and don't offer the spread of capabilities I'd like

Understandable. We're a one-car family though, (I know - the shame,) as we put our priorities into minimizing outgoings to keep the missus off work to bring up the kids, and pay down the mortgage ASAP.

With my commute to work the perfect cycling distance to remove need for me to do any other exercise, (and I have a local car share if I don't feel like it, or a convenient bus route if he is being useless) there is just no justification for a second car for us.

(I'm trying to convince the missus to let me go from 4 to 5 push bikes though.)

My wife would love us to be a one car (each) family, but I have several. The problem is that the house and family have taken over to the extent that I am being spread too think maintaining what I have, not to mention the money drains of house improvements.
I've got to face facts, and that is that the cars have to give for a little while. So it may mean the M5 and Clio RS200 have to go - things are that bad that I have seriously considered the anti barge in leasing!

- it's bought!

Pics below are from the ad. I'm going load the family into it and drive it up to Yorkshire now for the weekend so in a hurry... Impressions when I get back I suppose!

Congrats. You'll love it. Super smooth cruiser.

I just had a run up to the Moors in mine. Really going to miss it when it goes. Seems there might be a bit of a bidding war to buy it, which would be nice.

Nice buy that. I had an E320 petrol w210 (same engine), it was surprisingly easy to tinker about with and service. Not much to worry about there.

I changed the crank pulley as a precaution but I'm not sure if thats necessary on the 211? Not a biggie anyway.

Wish I could get some funds together (and spousal approval) for that grey 140 on the bay.

Don't have anything booked as yet Jonathan- waiting for word from The Man concerning timescales. I'll PM you when I know more....

The wheels on this LPGd E31 make me want to cry, and the two-tone interior is a dry-retch disaster, complemented with a disco head-unit and absent OBD pixels. It's also in a housing estate and has an Alpina badge.

All that said the body looks in decent nick, it's one of the very earliest 840s and currently stands at £2000 with a day to go.
