Another like.

Now we're all now accustomed to seeing gopping, wide-mouth-frog moderns on our everyday roads, all of a sudden the Scorpio looks many times better nowadays than it ever did in period.

The driveshaft and wheel wobble are a worry, but both might be a cheap fix.

This one?

Not for sale I'm afraid! It was a PH Carpool a few years and 10,000 miles ago.
Brilliant. Thanks.

I think, in principle, it's lush.

A lady colleague of mine has an E46 330ci. The engine sounds fabulous and has turbinic smoothness.

What's with the double Ford badges at the front though?
It's a Venn diagram depicting people with a basic appreciation of aesthetics and people who bought a Scorpio.

On a RWD car why would the driveshaft click when cornering? Can't be bad for £1500 though.

ETA: Nice work on the Venn quip above, top geekery.

bmthnick's purchase has got me thinking about CLs. Which of these two, both at 4k, do you think?

The second one has been for sale forever. It does look good.
Of those two I would prefer the 2nd one. I like the looks of the later cars but that is subjective. I also think (despite having a light coloured one myself) that the dark colours suit them best. the 18" Eltanin wheels on the second car are lovely, i'm not sure if I prefer them to the AMG wheels I have on mine. The Eltanin's seem to fill the arches better than the AMGs. The mileage is also good on the second one. My only complaint would that I think grey or black interior would suit the exterior colour better.

The 1st one is a very early car and whilst this might become more revered over time I dont think the market is keen on them at the moment.

Swoon at the gopping visage, the lofty sidewalls on the tyres, the magnificent Ford plastic-wood dash, and all yours for less than £1500. 2.3 litres of Henrys finest four-pottery, fewer than 100k under those sober alloys, and bragging rights on the correct rear-wheel-drive.

Like but needs the Cossie engine and the cool wheels the Cossie engined ones came with. Rare car now.

Gopping is generous.

I managed to stop seeing one when we sold the father-in-law's one-owner V6 Scorpio earlier this year.
He bought it as his retirement present back in 1996.

Advice please, Oh Mercedes-Wallahs!

55 plate E280 CDi (so V6 and 7-speed box)

Does £160+vat and £200+vat sound right for a gearbox oil and filter change and gearbox oil and filter change including flush sound about right, respectively?

And is the flush worth doing for the extra £50, or is that just pointlessly profligate allaying of unfounded fears?
IIRC the flush is worth doing as it is the only way to get the old oil out of the torque converter, you are only doing half a job if you don't go for it.
A flush isn't necessary if it's done properly by a gearbox specialist, as they are able to pump the old oil out without leaving the oil in the torque converter.
I'd agree with this to be honest - the right way is to get a complete change done by pumping the new oil through the torque converter etc, rather than just doing a drain + fill.

As I understand it a flush uses a detergent to try and break down some of the crap in the box, which is a bit pointless with an oil + filter change.
I understood a flush to mean putting new fluid in one side of the system whilst running the engine and watching the colour of fluid coming out the other side, don't see how you can drain the torque converter without doing this (you can on earlier mercs they have a drain plug in the torque converter, a 55 plate one won't)

I think it varies - a quick google suggests the detergent is optional. Either a full change or a flush includes the above, usually you'd use the output/input to/from the oil cooler to do it so you can monitor fluid exchange as you suggest.

I've seen guys fit early w220 AMG wheels to their w140s which fills the arches nicely. The ones from the first s55, pre-supercharging. 8.5" front and 9.5" rear iirc...

Does the weirdness of the colour of the silver wheels indicate that the car might not be quite that (lovely) green in person?

Hmm, but looking at the deeply iffy rest of the pic, the colour balance is well off in that shot.

I reckon it's more like this tbh

That pedantry aside, I do actually like the colour.

I just love this sort of thing. I like to leave old brochures lying around in my house so that I can kid myself that it's still 1982.

I suspect that car is 876 cypress green metallic.

Good link to colours here: http://www.classicway.de/overview.php?idtitel=farb...
