I'm not sure why this is creating so much excitement? Aston Martin as a brand is very closely associated with James Bond. No reason to pretend otherwise.

I wouldn't personally buy one with Bond sill plaques etc, but I can understand why someone might just for a bit of fun (I know we pretend otherwise on this forum, but Aston Martin's are meant to be fun!).

And AML clearly think they can sell some incremental cars using the tag and throwing in some luggage etc. So good luck to them. It makes no odds to me.

Move on

Feel much the same. If it adds £20m+ to the turnover to keep them going then good luck to them. We don't have to buy it.

I think the point is that they've managed to make it all these years without doing a 007 special edition. It's the thing that doesn't need to be said, they certainly don't need a special edition to shout about it.

yes That's what makes all those DB9s with 007 plates even more cringeworthy!

Real shame and a missed opportunity - some internals from the One-77 engine could have lifted the power perhaps? Something to make it run-out special, rather than some cheap addenda.

Isn't the DB9 GT which it's based upon a run out special?

Bond is associated with 'Aston Martin'. The general public can't tell and dont give a rats ar*e what the difference between a DB9, DBS or Vantage is. If you were to stop and ask members of the public what 5 things do you associate James Bond with I bet you a very high percentage of them would have 'Aston Martin' in their list. Only those with an AM would say DBS or DB5.

AM have enjoyed the relationship with Bond for years with the DB5 appearing in Goldfinger and Thunderball (built out of a late-series DB4), Goldeneye, Tomorrow never dies, Casino Royal (Wins it in a poker game) and Skyfall.

The DB5 can also be used in the video games 007 Racing, Agent Under Fire and From Russia with Love and James Bond 007: Blood Stone. The DB5 also made cameo appearances in the comedy film, The Cannonball Run, driven by Roger Moore, and in the TV-film The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E., George Lazenby, playing a Bond-like character referred to as "JB", drives a DB5 (with the licence plate "JB").

The older style DBS was also used in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'
The older style V8 Vantage in 'The Living Daylights'
A Vanquish in 'Die another Day'
A new shape DBS in 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Casino Royal'

And of course the DB10 in Spectre.

So please get over the fact that Aston Martin is directly associated with the James Bond franchise.

Justify it to yourself however you like, I still find it cringeworthy. If you find it fun then so be it, it's your car. I don't have to agree or like it though!

And it still doesn't change the fact the DB9 has nothing to do with James Bond!

Nope, I still don't get it - why should this edition have performance mods ?

It's a 'trim special' - it's no different to the dragon versions for china, the dunhill version of the DB7, the le mans edition of DB9 mk 1, etc - it's not purporting to be a new car or model

In fact, if they were to do another version of DB9, before it's replacement next year, that in any way, shape of form had better performance than the current DB9 GT, the last thing in the world that they would do is limit it to a Bond edition, because some people would want the performance but not the Bond aspect

Also, some people are bringing up the fact that a number of Astons have a 'bond touch', for instance within the numberplate. We've seen silver birch being requested on the odd car recently. Whenever a numbered edition Aston comes out, number '007' is the first one to be requested (ONE 77, V12 Zag, V12 Roadster, etc). I assume it's been the same with GT12. People on here are criticising the AML marketing department - you are all bonkers - if you worked in marketing and saw how many owners are doing the things I've just mentioned, surely you'd say here is an opportunity - some people love trying to visually link their Aston to Bond - let's bring out a car that does that officially and charge a premium

If it's not for you then fine (it's not for me either) but I really don't get why some people are making such a fuss.........

Finding it cringeworthy is fine. Liking it or not is of course very personal. But some people on here are actually criticising Aston for making this edition at all - that's the bit I struggle to get.

If they are concerned Aston are going down the Ferrari route, then I have some empathy but you'd better get used to it because guess what, the Ferrari model makes a lot of money and Aston historically haven't - can't really blame them for wanting to go down a more profitable route..........

Possibly not true.

The link provided by kensilver on page 2, tells the story of the DBS owned for four years by Barbara Broccoli. That article suggests that the pre-production DBS used in the film, was actually DB9 altered to look like a DBS.

There is still time for a few more, George.

Has there ever been a run-out special, after the announcement of a new model?
The Geneva show is in March, so need some DB9 sales between March and September next year.

I've not had a bad word said about it since day one - the only negativity seems to be on this forum.

Each to their own as you all say...but I'll tell you one thing, the ladies LOVE it! wink

James....oh dear me.
That might say more about the totty you know rather than anything else.
Most of the more discerning Aston Martin owners on this forum purchase the marque because of its discreet nature.
We do not require the addition of a 007 number plate for our magnificent motor vehicles to achieve the attention they obtain.
To prove my point a certain Mr Tony Hall ( overweight and pug ugly ) gets more wimminn than I've had hot dinners.
