Here’s a quote from a paper about figures in 2014.

"The good news comes as the firm celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2014. The latest SMMT figures show in March MG's registrations were 361, compared to just 41 for the same month in 2013.

This represented a 780 per cent increase and was the highest UK sales increase in the automotive industry. Figures for the first quarter were not quite so high but still presented a rosy picture for a firm rising from the ashes after its acquisition by Chinese car giant SAIC.

Between January and March, MG sold 546 cars, compared to 81 for the same period in 2013 - an increase of 574 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2013. This was also an industry best.

Overall, the figures mean MG has already sold more cars in the UK this year than it did in the whole of 2013."

It’s a bit meaningless when put into context, to say they are the fastest uk growing manufacture is nonsense as 400 percent increase of f k all is still f k all. Selective journalism at its best. MG registered, now that’s registering not selling, 2500 motors last year. With 77 uk dealers that’s on average 2.7 cars a months

My friend works in Edinburgh for Arnold clark, last month they sold 155 for one month.

With plastics from the 50’s, a st range of engines, a car that’s built mostly in china, only a 60,000 mile warranty or 3 years and the fact they aren’t cheap. Is it only a matter of time before MG go bust or at least shut down in the uk?

But they do have some of the best quality paint finishes in the business! (My random survey of many of the UK's car dealerships for work)

I'm sure they are doing well in China, its hard not to I should imagine.

That press release is Top Trumps for statistical bending

Will MG go bust again ?

One can only hope so !

The once proud mark has been totally bastardised and should have been left to rest in peace in 1980.

Have MG cars ever been any good since the 1950's.......really?

OK, the Midget and "B" were good fun in their day, but were basically old school technology in the late sixties using engines and bits from mainstream BMC saloon cars.

I remember having a race from a standing start for a bet (On a private road obviously officer) in my brand new Mk4 Spitfire, with a mate in his brand new Midget, I left him for dead after 30mph, he was just a speck in my mirror at 90 mph, and you could hardly call a Spitfire fast...

At least the 50's ones had a bit of style about them.....

That's a fair assessment...though would add this..."The once proud mark has been totally bdized and should have been left to rest in peace in 1980 bought by Alchemy Partners and converted into a specialist British Sportscar Manufacturer..."

1980. Oh dear.

Care to explain why 1980 specifically?

No, they wont go bust again, they are owned by the eigth largest manufacturer of vehicles in the world.

I find some of the comments here disgusting.

Hundreds of British (exMGR staff) are still employed by MG in the midlands - designing and engineering the new range of cars.

I own an MG3 and find it great fun to drive and far better than many of these 'enthusiasts' uninformed opinions would have you believe.

As educated British people I think you would do well to test drive one before casting such negative opinions around and perpetuating ill feeling towards a brand of which we should still be very proud.

I sat in a couple. It was about as cheerful as a police holding cell.

The reason they went bust is because they never built a car anyone would want In the last twenty years.

I find your ignorance to be quite insulting. That'll do isn't putting the great in Britain

What am I ignorant of?

I agree that the parent company could do more for the brand but they are still in their infancy and trying to release a range of cars from scratch.

I personally am looking forward to the GS SUV that is due for release next year. Handling sorted by Porsche and GKN developments providing the 4WD system.

You bought a car purely because it's British and flame others who don't see that as a valuable commodity when owning a car. Because let's face it, the only other reason you chose your car is because the mg forecourt was closer to your house than others.

Im not going to get into some sort of childish bickering here.

I bought my car as Ive enjoyed driving MG hatches for the last 15 years.Starting with a Metro and going through most of the others since.

I had an MG6 which was a good car that handled well but sold it to buy an MG3 which has been fantastic so far.

Why promote negativity towards a brand if you have only sat in one of their cars, not driven it?

Why accuse me of having only bought a car for being British that is mainly made in China?

As I said before, just try driving one with an open mind.

I opened it up for reasoned debate.

I've sat in all the range and to be quite frank it was pathetic. I never went further to have a test drive but have read various reviews claiming them to be utterly dreadful.

The fact that you came on and we're quite brash to others bad mouthing the company got my back up.

If your happy that's great. But I just cannot understand why anyone would pick these other than brand loyalty.

Here we go - heres the first review that pops up when you use google -

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mg/mg3

Whilst not exactly glowing - it is far, far away from 'utterly dreadful' - and seems to represent a large proportion of the industry reviews.

Heres another from a quick Googling -

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/2659...

Again, a fairly solid review for a re-born marque. I particularly like this quote from the Evo magazine article 'One of the best in its class to drive'.

So, I have to wonder, did you genuinely pose the question 'will MG go bust again'?! Or did you just come here with a pre-conception and a bad attitude?

Obviously, you will now dig up the Clarkson review, which is fair enough, but dont forget that the guy is a comedian that cant really be taken seriously.

In the interest of fairness I will include a quote from his review -

'The whole car’s rotten, really, and here’s the clincher. It’s not that cheap. The Magnette model I drove is £21,195. And for that you can have a normal car that doesn’t lacerate your fingers, stall, refuse to start, bash your head in every time you go over a bump and ruin your gentleman sausage if you have a crash.'

And now heres a quote from the serious motor publication 'Evo' -

'A lot can be forgiven when you drive the MG6. It steers (using hydraulic assistance) with delightful feel, weight, precision and transparency, and the mix of supple springs, taut damping and progressive cornering-attitude adjustability on the throttle makes the MG6 an unusually deft, light-footed and intimate driving companion. Dynamically it's one of the best cars in its class; the engineering chief drives a Lotus Exige, and it shows.'
