This has been the biggest pain for me living in London, our house purchasing decision has been dictated by finding a place with a driveway or garage as I would be constantly paranoid about someone doing what happened to that guy with the Aston. I have noticed someone on my road sticks a cheap cover on his Bentley which has a plastic part allowing the ticket man to see his residents parking permit

I had a wing mirror stolen from my 430 last week in Notting Hill and the day after a friends R8 had both wing mirrors stolen around Lancaster Gate.

My wing mirror had been unscrewed and taken off rather than vandalised.

Police said it wasn't uncommon to see parts go missing as it takes no time to remove them and they're pretty valuable.

I've parked nice cars on the street in central London for a few years, although not Ferrari nice!

As others have said, minor damage does happen. My MR2 was swiped by a u-turning black cab. Twice. The Alfa had a wing mirror knocked off one night and was broken into once. There's also the wear and tear from leaving it in the sun and rain, or even ice and salt occasionally. I have a Maserati now and it lives in an underground garage. I leave it on the street when I use it but would not leave it out permanently.

Private garages in central London cost about £500 a month, less as you go further out. Best value is The City of London, which will rent you a spot in the Barbican or Golden Lane estate for about £100 a month if you live in the borough.

I remember a black 360 spider parked somewhere off Knightsbridge with about 2 inches of dust and leaves on it

Used to live in Hampstead and Primrose Hill...nice areas and less of an issue with parking damage on the roads I lived in but plenty of issues with part theft. Wheels/bumpers/sills/wing mirrors...all gone missing at various times. In Belgravia I'd say that is a lot less likely to happen, your major issue there is schoolr run Mum's in Range Rovers who can't park.

If you leave a 458 parked on the street anywhere but prime areas there's a decent chance of malicious damage especially at night.

Insurance if not garaged could be penal? But if it does go, you could buy a 650S and get your smile back!

By Vanquish do you mean a NP Vanquish S or a Gaydon one? The former is an appreciating classic to be cherished and not left at risk on London roads. A DBS might be a better car to drive than the latter - worth comparing.
