Has anyone had any experience of this please?

Dad died of a Heart Attack on 14/9, as he was DoA we were told he had to go through a Post Mortem and the Coroner

2 weeks later and they haven't released him yet, which means that everything remains in limbo as we can't do anything without the DC cry

It wasn't his first HA, it was his 7th/8th, he's had angioplasty and he had a pacemaker & Alzheimer’s

Can anyone please advise how long we should be waiting for this to complete, we want to put our Dad to rest?

So sorry to hear about your dad.

I know its not much help but my 31 year old cousin died early last week suddenly. Paramedics spent an hour working on her to no avail, my uncle and autnie have been told that they to have to wait for a post mortem examine and then wait for it to be signed of by the coroner, have been told it will be at least 2 weeks if not 3 due to a back log of "work". So I wouldn't worry too much as it seems to be normal....ish.

Thank you, he was 81 and it was a blessing; unlike your poor Cousin! I'm so sorry for your loss.

Sounds like we were lucky, at least it gives her family a chance to move on.

Having gone through this twice in the past 10 years (once father in law and once brother) it can take a while.

IIRC before the Coroner can "open and adjourn" the case he needs to ensure that the Post Mortem has been done correctly to ensure that all "possible evidence" has been collected as once he issues the interim death certificate there's not much opportunity for further evidence to be collected.

So the 1st delay is getting the PM done, once that's done ad written up it's submitted to the Coroners court and they will then have to plan the hearing in to the courts diary.

As the 1st hearing is usually about an hour this isn't too difficult but can give you the family little notice, but if you miss it there's not much said/done; it's usually xyz has died, this needs to be investigated so I will open a case, I need to collect and review evidence so therefore adjourn for a while"

He will then issue an interim death certificate and a release the body to the undertakers and give a form for you to give to the undertaker to either Bury or cremate the body (different forms btw so a good idea is to know what you're planning to do, although if you change your mind you can go back and ask for the other one.)

Then after a while (6 months for both of mine) there will be hearing and he has to establish; who, where, when and how.

The most useful person we found helping us through the process were the Coroners Officer, both times (different courts) they were happy to speak to you at any time and answer any questions on process, when my brother died they even rang my Father the day after the hearing to check he was OK and got home safely (it was a 250 mile drive).

Yours might not be so protracted a time but as both of my cases were given "accidental"

Hoep this helps, and sorry to hear of your loss!

Thank you and thank you! I'm so sorry that you know so much about this frown

It's waiting for the PM that's causing the problems.

Coroner has said this afternoon that Dad is on his way to them, and they will try to release him by Thursday, so we can have the funeral next week smile (the FD booked a slot wink )

Fingers crossed please

You do realise that your father isn't actually going anywhere don't you, he'll stay at the mortuary and then be released to the funeral directors, should you wish to you can usually see him to pay your personal final respects at most stages until the actual internment.

Only point this out as I had to explain it all to my 9 year old niece!
