Flux were great when I got my first policy on my own.

Everywhere wanted around £2600 for my Civic with a few sensible mods but Flux quoted me £1500, result!

Then renewal came around and despite gaining my first years NCB and being a year older (obviously!) they only went down to £1300 and that was TPF&T.

Did a bit of shopping around and managed to get it down to £800 with Elephant, Fully Comp. They were great on the phone and I've dealt with them three times since, being quick and easy to talk to.

Then around 3 months ago it came time for me to insure my BMW, an E34 540i. Now I knew it wasn't going to be cheap at 20 years old with only a years NCB but I thought with it being quite... 'specialist' I'd try Flux again. After a massive headache of trying to explain the difference between Optional Extra alloy wheels and non-standard ones they eventually quoted me north of £3000 for TPF&T cover!!!

Quick call to Elephant they swapped my policy over for £460, which with a little maths into play would make my insurance ~£115 a month which means it was only a little bit more to insure my 540i with Elephant than Flux wanted for my bloody Civic!!!
Ah yes, but heed the words of our resident insurance guru, Rtype, my boy.....your product will clearly be awful as it has cost less! If you have a crash the insurer will immediately cast the claims file from their desks into the wicker filing cabinet, they will then go and dive into a giant pool of sovereigns....your world will end and life will not be worth living and many, many kittens will die! And all this because you dared to shop around and find a cheaper quote or question what is to all intents and purposes a pretty silly and illogical price hike from a 'specialist' insurance provider.

Personally I've always found Flux pretty good. Dealt with a couple of no-fault claims on my old MX5 very smoothly and were 50% cheaper than Sky when it came to ensuring my current MX5.

Also no issues with changing the suspension out fully and no extra cost to the premium either (Bilsteins to Meister R's so they may clearly saw it as a "flat move" rather than an upgrade).

CS has always been fine as well, no issues from my perspective.

Doh. Renewed my policy with them yesterday when they matched another quote I had. I'll call and see if that discount can be applied.

Not sure how most of this thread doesn't fall under the "no name and shame" policy

I don't work in the insurance industry - however I used to live in Kings Lynn and I used Adrian Flux for a few years and had no issues (was 25 years ago mind)

I had 4x4 insurance with them last year, but have not renewed with them this year, as wasn't impressed that they had totally undervalued my car,
When I corrected the value, the price only went up £25 which was interesting. When I rang to tell them I was not renewing the person the phone was rude and aggressive saying he could better the quote and offer better features.
When I pointed out it was irrelevant as I had other taken the policy out with the other company this did not seem to deter them at all. I did ask if they could better the price I paid, why didn't they offer the best price first, and would they pay the cancellation fee on the other insurance. I got no answer to both of these.
Did say they could quote me when the insurance is due on my classic 4x4, going by what other say it wont be very competitive.

I called them last week to let them know I did not want to renew my policy as I had found better cover elsewhere. I was kept on hold for 20 minutes only to be told that they had already charged my card, 3 days before the policy was due to start. They sent me my renewal notice/quote by email on the same day. The lady on the phone said that it clearly states in the email that they will take payment 3 days before the policy is due to start. I've since checked the email and no time scale is mentioned so that was a lie. Not impressed.

I've used them before when I ran a grey import. They asked for what discount I was getting from my previous insurer (over the phone I may add) which I told them and they made an assumption how many years ncb it was. When I couldn't prove the additional years they had assumed they whacked the premium up accordingly.
To be fair they went back on their phone recordings and realised they had made the mistake and wiped the charge.
Used them for a few years and didn't have any issues but think at the time they used to charge for policy edits which was frustrating.

Due insurance now so may enquire...

So it's clear a number of you have had a poor experience which I'm obviously not happy about and would love to somehow turn the experiences around.

I am going to do some work my end this week before I go to emphasise the fact that PH members are entitled to our owners club discounts. It seems as though a number of you have advised us of this AFTER the quotation has been received - Part of our quotation/data capture process includes the question "Are you a member of any car owners clubs or forums?" so it may well be a case that you have already answered this question so we therefore have given you the discount.

I am more than happy to check anyones policy who thinks they may not have received the club discount, amongst investigating any other issues.

Obviously with many of you it seems it's too late and the damage is done, which is a huge shame but I understand of course. Both myself, my replacement and us as a company will still put the effort in to do anything we can to prevent future re-occurrences of issues that have been pointed out here.

Again I will welcome anyone who is unhappy with any element of their experience with us to DM me their details and we will investigate any issues.

Of course it is "easy" for you to silently apply the non-existent discount if you ask the question during the quote - how stupid do you think we are? What people should do to prove that the discount is a load of bks is to answer "no" to the question and then after they've given the quote add "oh, I've just looked and I am in fact a PH member after all" and see how much the quote gets reduced by. My wager is on a big fat zero closely followed by "it's already been applied, sir". Anyone looking to renew that can put it to the test?

First things first, credit to Jordan for continuing to post on a site where the higher-ups at Flux obviously don't appreciate the market.

On a more forlorn note, I mentioned before the disappointment I've had from Flux, in terms of a specialist and PH discount offered in Flux's terms. Not only was I told that Adrian Flux don't offer a PistonHeads discount, I was also told that Adrian Flux don't insure TVRs because too many people crash them.

It's rather disappointing when the company that's all over the specialist car brand you buy can't insure you, so you cancel and, after being messed around, get essentially a full refund from, just to take your business elsewhere.

Jordan - not sure how much pull you have with the seniors but it's probably worth noting that Flux's advertising ended up with me buying a specialist car that Flux purport to insure, being given the FRO, cancelling two policies with your company, purchasing specialist policies and re-insuring two further cars with a competitor (Admiral, who I've been thoroughly impressed with and I'd recommend without a doubt), and also discrediting your company purely thanks to your advertising. Not to mention the free negative publicity I'm happily throwing around any chance I get. I've had insurance companies not offer me a policy or quote me a silly price. I've never had a company, that call out my specialist choice of vehicle, decline me insurance while denying the offers on their site as well as the specialists' site, not to mention insulting a driver of the brand by saying "too many people crash those cars".

I know Jordan and Ash are very good representatives of their employer - but my frustration is directed at the management there. The people who forgot the training where the staff are supposed to win business from the market that their advertising budget is heavily invested in.

This is exactly the same vein I had with the Impreza, practically word for word; nice to know I'm not the only one.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

What we have learnt from this thread is that there is a clear need to increase our training within the call centre. Some of the comments I have read are genuinely surprising and we are already doing some work behind the scenes to make sure our staff are full educated on not just PH, but all of the relationships we have with various owners clubs and forums.

The comments you have made regarding being told we don't offer a Pistonheads discount and that we don't insure TVR's are both shocking as they are both simply not true. I can assure you we are going to be making changes to try and battle this. We actually have a completely separate department that deals solely with cherished cars such as TVR's, so it genuinely comes as a surprise to hear this.

Seb, if you wanted to DM me your details I can arrange for these telephone calls to be traced and investigated as the comments you have quoted are certainly untrue.

Kind regards,
Jordan

To be honest Fordan, the only way you"re going to make the Flux experience a better one is to get yourself off of PH. I was totally disgusted with the treatment I received, and the 15% discount promise is simply laughable.

Being that rude to someone that's trying to help you usually means you get the customer service you deserve. Does your soup always taste too salty in restaurants?

Currently with L&V, and have been for the last 3 years. Great customer service, and no charges for swapping to winter tyres, or bigger wheels/tyres on the rear, unlike other companies. So sorry to disappoint you.

Hi Jordan - We've already spoken about this. Please refer to our conversation of my email on 01/06/15 at 22:15, and your response on 03/06/15 at 17:13. I've already spoken to your CS team about this situation. Out of respect I won't repost my original email to Flux, however if any PHer would like to read it I'd be happy to redact and repost it.

hehe this has gone exceedingly well.

I've not used you guys for a few years since you decided to near double the premiums of my GTR and Atom after advertising heavily for those vehicles.
