RE: PistonHeads/Adrian Flux partnership

Out of interest has anyone successfully negotiated a quote and at the very end successfully got their PH discount?
If I ever got a quote from them I'd ignore (yes, even tell little porkies) any initial questions regarding online or car club memberships right until the end. I imagine that would perhaps be the only way to successfully get the mythical discount applied.
. . . but nobody should have to do that should they?!!

My quote was originally £1250 but then i told them another company quoted 1120 so AF said £1100. Phoned up again and asked for more discount and they reduced to £1050. Can't complain (yet) tbh
In my limited experience flux direct is an absolute shambles.
Admin error at their end led to policy being cancelled. Days of my time wasted sorting it out.
Even cancelling the policy has taken over an hour today.
Demoralised staff sick of fielding complaints etc
Can't remember whether they were cheap but regardless of premium saving not worth it for me.
The original Adrian flux specialst broker service was good. Mass market flux direct does not seem to be working well.

The thing that can make AF dearer is their fee structure. Three years ago I got my renewal from another broker to find a fee ( can't remember if it was referral or policy admin fee) of £35 in addition to the quote. AF didn't ask this from me ( possibly as a new customer). Last year ,it came in the form of a referral fee (if memory serves). This year it was an "admin fee". Both times I've questioned it as being an increase of approx 20% on previous ( or of total quote) and renewal management have "at their discretion" removed it .
With an extra £35 on my policy, they'd better remember the words of that annoying tenor"there's more than one supplier....",or the words of another "that's for BRAND NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY....".
For meat, I go to a local butcher. regular customers are recognised and rewarded. The "policy admin fee" would equate to the butcher telling me that because it was a butcher serving me, that I'd be expected to pay a fee ,on top of the price of my meat, for his services.

Saw the painful time-wasting pop-up advert today - AF, do you want to appeal to "Experts and Entusiasts" as stated in your advert., or "Experts and Enthusiasts"?????
If I really have to put up with slow loading times to permit your advert. to open please don't insult me with primary school spelling FFS!
Makes me doubt the competency of what I may be offered as an insurance product if I were to contact you.................

This isn't just aimed at Flux, but happens most quite a few other brokers too.
Can anyone explain why customer loyalty in insurance land usually equates to massively higher renewal costs?
Its one of my many reasons why I insure with my current insurer, in 3 years my renewal has gone down, without me having to spend hours on the phone getting quotes they have simply lowered my insurance costs every year.
I even checked last year and I could save a few quid, but why bother when they have been so good?
A few other brokers could learn a fair bit from that. They also actually send renewal notices through unlike some I could mention!

Because they are all chasing the same slice of pie - and introductory discounts for new customers is how they hook you in - that discount evaporates at renewal timeThey don't reward the long term customer and effectively punish the lazy customers who don't price compare.
House insurance as another example has gone same way in majority of cases.
There are some exceptions - I've been with same company on house insurance for 25 years - the cover I have is tailored to my needs and whilst initial quotes from other companies appear to offer savings as soon as I start to specific levels of cover for garage tools and equipment (built up over years) the saving evaporates - so I stay with the same company
I would be interested in who you are insured with as it's frankly worth a few quid to me not to have to compare the meerkats every freaking year on 3 motor policies (no "multicar" doesn't work for me either)
The insurance on the wifes shed has just needed renewing.
It was Admiral last year - they were cheapest - I know there are plenty of horror stories but for a 10 year old Fiesta I'm not too concerned.
Anyway the letter came through the post and I expected to have to spend hours comparing prices & then arguing about prices.
However a quick delve into the comparison sites & I couldn't find anything cheaper than Admirals renewal price.
Phoned them up to confirm & cheekily asked if there was anything else they could do with the price & they knocked a further £30 off.
Very happy.
For my car I'm with Sky Insurance - they offer to price match anything if they are not cheapest with their renewal - I've never had to take them up on the price match offer yet.
All in all a good experience, which means I'm happy to promote both companies - I also don't feel so hacked off with them when the renewal does come through.

They gave me a quote on a modified car I was about to buy. Bought the car and 18 hours later called back to pay the premium. Once the sales monkey had confirmed I now owned the car the premium miraculously doubled from the previous days quote. I was stuck 150 miles from home with a modified car and no insurance so I had to take it. Never used them since. Scamming me for 800 quid has cost them at least 30k in premiums since. Idiots.
Just had a quote off of you. Didn't take it, even though it was the cheapest, because I was told, that the 15% premiums are on selected underwriters, not all.
Plus the fact that the excess was £500, and it couldn't be reduced "oh but we offer a waiver...". No thanks, I don't want to be forking out £500, when I can pay an extra £60 and get a £100 excess, with an (apparently) better insurer.
So Jordan/Ash whoever it is, can you explain why you offer the discounts, but dont mention this on all the ads of the discount?

You know the part in The Matrix where the little kid says to Neo, "There is no spoon"?Because it's all an illusion, right?
The AF discount is the same.
HTH.
