Try listening to Radcliffe and Maconie on 6Music (1-4pm) instead, there really is no comparison.
The problem I have with these 2 is the way they seem to try to outdo each other with their obscure knowledge about the acts they are playing.

"That was 'Elephant Stone' by the Stone Roses. An excellent track off their first album. The lead singer being of course the legendary Ian Brown. Ian is an avid fan of Beanie Babies & has over 600 in a specially built room in his house."

"You're right Stuart, and his band member John Squire now spends his days visiting charity shops all over England in order to fulfil his craving for second hand jigsaws."

Distinct odor of fish coming from the radio!

Tarrant is quite possibly the worst presenter ever put on radio 2, and that's allowing for stiff competition in the form of Jeremy Vine, Dermot O'Leary and Graham Norton. Norton's show was SO much better when Craig Charles stood in for a few weeks.
Excellent, my views entirely.

I have already expressed my disdain for Jeremy Vine a number of times on PH and he does not improve but if you really want dire broadcasters then take a listen to vapid Sarah Cox or self possessed Vanessa Feltz but particularly Anneka Rice.

Unable to go thirty seconds without stumbling over her inane prepared script, she has no place on obscure regional radio, never mind the national network, I find it incredible that she is still on the airwaves.
They have to maintain a politically correct balance of male and female DJs, or it would be sexist.

Don't be silly. Elephant Stone wasn't on their first album.

I quite like that. Nothing wrong with a bit of knowledge.

Each to their own, but I can't comprehend how anybody could find them anywhere near as annoying as Steve Wright's, er, big show....

IMHO

Evans, OK but trys a little too hard to demonstrate how safe and mainstream he is constantly going on about his wife, kids, german shepherd etc. At that time of the morning just play the music, give us the news and crack a few gags mate. Sara Cox is good fun when she dep's.
Bruce, decent dry wit pop master a must.
Vine, garbage. There is another guy that stands in for him sometimes who's name escapes me that is much better.
Wright, big show? Big load of crap. Forced laughter at the jokes, false appluse at the guests, serious jocking, same damn thing that I was listening to 20 years ago. Can someone not just put this bloke out to pasture?
Mayo, good and the confesions are sometimes laugh out loud funny.

Overall R2 is way better than a lot out there but will somebody in authority please get rid of SW.

IMHO of course.

Agree with all of that. I wish Janice Long was on earlier, she plays some great music.

Liza Tarbuck is as bad in the afternoon. I suffered her for hours on the M6 one Saturday driving a new car up the road. R2 was the only station I could get and she was utter pish.

Steve Wright is awful. Why he 'sings' the last line of every song I'll never understand. fk your factoids and your 'loving the show Steve' bks.
Talking or singing over the tracks is an old skool Radio 1 trait. It's because home taping is killing music innit.

But she's good enough for a afternoon slot, rice has 6-8am on sat nobody ( other than us sad fkers listens) and she's incredibly boring, even she sounds bored doing it.

Radio 2 basically caters for the elderly and that is a very large group.

I'm in my late 30s and think R2 is fairly awful. Jonathan Ross on a Saturday was good at times and Radcliffe & Maconie were good when they were on in the evenings.
Well, as the remit for Radio 2 is to cater for the 35+ age group you must also therefore be elderly!!!

No no no, I'm 44, age has nothing to do with it, Radio two is just corny and not in a good way, for me its not about the playlist but the personalities , they are cretins from another era and it shows.

DJs will always attract strong views.

Back in the 80s they seemed to have better DJs but that may be an age thing.
Wright is alright - you only have to listen to people like Michael Ball, Zoe Ball, Chris Tarrant and the jarring Sarah Cox to realise that it's not easy to get a
listenable show.

I also hate Jeremy Vine, he's like caustic soda in my eyes "On today's show, spotted underwear, does it cause religious extremism and when walking your dog, do you stop and talk to children". Even Ken Bruce seems barely tolerant of him. Oddly, though I cannot abide Vanessa Feltz in the mornings, she does a better job than Vine when standing-in.

And don't get me started on Wogan, the world's biggest sycophant and a hundred years past his sell-by date.
