Good grief you are practically next door. I'm off Crystal Way.
Be good to meet up. I'm working away at the moment but will get in touch next week.

OK, I managed to get out the TVR manual rack after about 3 hours and a lot of swearing. Both steering couplings were seized on for death.

The next problem is I can't remove the steering arms off the old rack. I've put a large F spanner on the flats and belted it with a lump hammer but nothing is moving. Any ideas how to shift them?

They do unscrew, I use a large spanner while the racck is in the car. That makes it much easier to undo when the rack is bolted to the chassis.

Removal of the track rods also makes taking the rack out a doddle!!

I just can't shift them. There didn't look to be enough access to unscrew them under the car. I also can't see a way of getting the new rack in without removing the exhaust Y piece which looks hard work. The pinion won't fit through the gap in the wishbones. Not easy this.

It can be done with the y piece in place although it is much easier with it out.

The rack will fit in between the wishbones. I usually slide mine in from the nearside after disconnecting the drop links and bungee The ARB up out the way.

My preferred method especially if faffing around.

Remove Y peace
Disconnect all lines and fittings
Disconnect drop links as above
Turn rack so exposed track rod connections are just visible in the chassis area
Undo track rods with rack still bolted.
Lift rack out through bonnet, (no wriggling necessary!).

No more than an hours work, (with access!).

Damn, bit of a set back. The reason my steering arms wouldn't unscrew are because I wasn't appreciating there is a locknut on each joint. At a mate's with a bigger vice, once the locknut was released, the joint broke free. The problem is there is NO male screw thread on these steering arms, It's a larger female thread with a wierd spring inside confused so these have no chance of being used on the Scooby rack. For some reason my rack is completely different to those I've seen pictures of previously on here and has no female thread in the ends. It's slightly longer too. Weird.

So now I need to source 2 new Chimaera steering arms with a male thread to fit the Scooby rack.

None of the 3 or 4 TVR PS racks had locking nuts and I'm sure my manual on didn't either .

I believe the PS racks have generic track rods but I'm not sure where from.

My manual rack is totally different 620mm length and male ends. Very confusing.

Can anybody confirm what length track rod arms they have used in the Scooby rack as they seem to come in three different lengths 295mm, 335, and 305mm?

Hard to say.

Where are the measurements taken from? The whole length of the track rod?

I may have a spare on the shelf.

If you measure hub point to hub point, deduct the length of the scooby rack and divide by 2 you will have it.

OK we are back in business. 2 new TVR steering arms screw straight into the Scooby rack. Here's the two racks side by side, overall length is the same. Trial fitting the rack next.

Bad news I'm afraid.

You have to turn the pinion housing around 180degrees as the pipes will foul the chassis where they are now.

It's done already. First job I did then re-bent the pipes for the new orientation.

That looks like the same pump.

I bought the pump, bracket, wiring and the remote reservoir together, all S/H.

Cleaned up, modded the bracket and bolted it to an ally plate that is bolted in turn to the inner wing.

Cut back the wiring, connected main power to pump with a fused link direct from battery and the trigger for the pump activation from the fuel pump feed.

That way the pump only runs with the engine running.

Many hours later, Scooby rack is in. Pipes connected, fluid connectors on.

Next job, order a shorter 330mm steering linkage. and connect the steering arms, fit the TREs. It looks like the steering linkage is going to be very tight for clearance against the upper wishbone. Hope it doesn't foul it.

Clearance at the wishbones was not an issue. I had to grind some of the bottom of the Ford universal joint as this fouled the chassis.

Bit more work tonight fitting the new steering linkage, and as suspected it's fouling the wishbone a little, when the suspension is on full drop. Not sure if this will get better with the tie rod reconnected. It will be OK when the weight of the car is on the suspension but not ideal to have the steering fouled when the car is jacked up.

Phazed I know you said yours was OK but can you remember how tight yours is with the wheel off?

Some other clearance issues on the nuts on the Ford Ka joint but should be able to sort those with some grinding.
