Anybody have any advice on what is good to do? The OH and I are heading to Lewes fireworks festival and then onto Hayling Island for one night. All thoughts appreciated.

Are you serious? Genuinely are you serious?
Words cannot describe how much you don't want to spend a night there combined with the phrase "something to do".

I've spent way way way too many nights there because of work !

I nearly ended up with a job on the south coast and when we were looking at places to live, were amazed how cheap H/I was. Didn't take the job but later did a trip down there and my god did we understand why it was cheap. One access road which is too many in and not enough out. Please stay somewhere better like the Witterings or Chichester.

The thing is we are at the Lewes fireworks festival which will be pretty busy so we are just looking for somewhere quiet near the coast and near a quiet beach to relax and unwind just for one night. Sorry I should have been more specific.

Surely there must be a nice quiet pub somewhere for some grub and a bottle of plonk?

Not on Hayling Island, there won't be. It is utterly horrible

I went in a pub on the seafront at hayling years ago, it was like being in someone's house, the only other place I could compare it to is Lincolnshire.

The only thing Hayling is good for is watersports, on the sea that is wink

Windsurfing, Kitsurfing, sailing etc. Could always sign up for some kitesurfing lessons

The ship just across into Langstone is ok, nice in the summer. There is/was the Royal George also. And are we talking Lewes as is A27Lewes? If so you are the wrong side of Arundel!!!

Yes Lewes A26/27 for the Lewes Fireworks celebration. Has anyone ever been?

Gulp slightly worried about H/I now. Might have to take a bottle of plonk and a dvd with us in that case. Surely the beach must be ok to walk along for a nice afternoon stroll?

That's over an hour away from Lewes, but I'm guessing you already know that?

Indeed, we were looking to organise a mini break along the south coast area.

Quite a nice walk from the pub by the access bridge down the coast tot he bottom of the Island and back. Took a couple of hours. Seemed like decent pub.

Don't go to Hayling, it's an armpit - lived there for a few years. Book a night in Southsea, much more to do/see.

Another good shout, some nice walks round there and brilliant food and if your lucky a trackday at the circuit.

As soon as you escape the island, there is quite a nice pub on the coast called the Royal Oak in Langstone, it is not the one just on the bridge.

But as others have said, Hayling is a bit of a dump!

As far as Hayling goes, the local Fun Police (Planning Authority) hatched a very successful local plan to destroy tourism about fifteen years ago.

It used to be great, but it rapidly turned into Jaywick Sands once all of the tourist income had gone elsewhere.

Another vote for Southsea thumbup

Or Witterings.

Hmmm we have booked it on Air Bnb already. Surely it can't be that bad for one night. Worse case we can drive to pub a nice 1hr away for dinner and come and retreat at this lovely place..

Good excuse for another 1hr punt in the R8 too smile
