Mate of mine is getting married in Thailand so the cost for me to see my mate get married is £1800.
The stag do is in Portugal so that's another £700

That's £2500 because someone decided to get married.

What's the most you have spent on a non family members marriage.

FTFY.

"No" is a handy word for situations like this.

It would need to be a really good mate and I'd need to be quite flush to be joining them on their big day.

I agree but think of the "TWO" best men he's having, difficult for them as they have known him since about 5yrs old.

£0 - I even attended my sister in laws wedding in Las Vegas but paid travel and board was included in the invitation.

If you are getting married abroad you pay for the people you want to go, likewise with stag do's tbh.

I didnt have a stag do as i couldnt afford to jet people around and am a miserable prick at the best of times so just pretended a band trip was a stag event.

Sorting out my stag do and after realising just to get everyone to Nottingham from aberdeen, it was going to be over £300 each for the weekend, we decided to do paint balling at a good local place then a good curry. There's only about 7 of us and February in Aberdeenshire outside is fun.......yes?

My Mrs was invited to a few hen do's with her uni mates and the cost of attending a lot of these was daft, okay we live in Aberdeen so getting anywhere in the UK is expensive as it miles away, but the spa days and other type things were about £250 a time, this ontop of average £150 travel and £150 hotels.

The £10K one above, jesus wept, what were you doing to cost that?

Indeed. You could get a high-class hooker every month at that rate.

..

Unless that is what he did(?!)

I wouldn't pay that to see anyone get married, there will be photos of the day one could view after the event I assume

Took the family to DisneyWorld.

To be fair, the wedding only messed up a couple of days. Given a choice I wouldn't have gone to WDW at that time of year, so we went for the wedding but built a holiday around it.

I wouldn't mind, but they repeated the same thing when they got back to the UK - church blessing, family meal, and then big evening do. So we had to do their wedding twice.

I hope your mate isn't going to come on here in a few months stating he cant afford a decent house. I just don't understand this spend, they could put it to their mortgage.

I went to Michigan a month ago and spent well over £2k on me and the missus. We made a nice holiday out if it though. Hired a mustang, did a road trip to Niagra falls, ate and drank very well, partied hard and I know my buddy really appreciated us being there.

Few hundred quid to see my mate get married in Bavaria - little village in the hills, no hotel so we all stayed with their friends and neighbours - best wedding I've ever been to (and I include my own) it was a little quiet ceremony in the town hall followed by a very loud party in the village hall with loads of unusual (to us) games they play at weddings - at one point the female guests 'kidnap' the bride and the males guests and the groom have to search the village for her - she was in the pub, more cake (lots of cakes at Bavarian weddings) more beer and lots of singing.

Marriage didn't last the Honeymoon - true story, she was leading this crazy double-life, when she was supposed to be in Germany seeing her Parents she was in Italy seeing her boyfriend.

Still, a brilliant party.

Wife's cousin is getting married in Jamaica next year, I've had to say no. I think it's starting to unravel a bit, the only guest who can go, or at least are willing to spend thousands to do so are the older relatives.

The usual wedding cost us about £200-£300 to go to including the hotel for the day before and the day of the wedding. Possibly about £100 in booze on the day.

Stag nights have ranged from £150 to £500+, but the more expensive one was partly down to me and a mate helping out a few less fortunate people who still wanted to party into the early hours but lacked the folding. Our choice, could have added not much more than £30-40 to our bills but as we were paying we decided to push the boat out and go large for them - we've all known eachother for 20 odd years and done get many chances to hang out like we did in our early 20's.

Mine, if it ever happens, and my best friend's, will be what we and our respectives want and with regard to our friends and families. We are both likely to get married overseas. For the weddings we are both expecting to pick up the bill for the best man and his partner. Anyone else who wants to come is more than welcome, we'd love it, but understand fully if people would rather save their money and send an e-mail.

Once married we are both planning on having a big village hall bash in the UK, central to as many guests as possible, with a van full of free (for the guests) booze and a BBQ/hog roast. Sort of "If we can remember your name and e-mail you'll get an invite" type do.

For our respective stags it will be a bit of a question of time and money. If we do chose to do something that is going to be too much for the pockets of others we are likely to sub it.

New Zealand, that was probably a few grand in total. Most of us who went fancied a trip over there anyway though and I had a great 3 week roadtrip with a couple of mates on the way to it.

My own wedding was in NZ, we just had a big party/reception in London a few weeks later though.

If they're not offering to pick up the tab, they don't really expect you to be there.
