I don't normally post on here but am well excited as I have just picked up my new engine that has been built for my car. Hoping to have it on the road early next year.

Thanks.

Engine is rebuilt and rebored to 1700cc, with weber twin 40's, gt valves and kent 234 cam.Should give it a bit more go than the 34bhp 1200cc original.

Good combination, might be worth 135bhp, so with an extra 100bhp, could be a flier. Just watch out for the drivers who think, old car=slow and pull out in front of you.

Thanks that is exactly what we are hoping it will run. Have fitted adjustable suspension and decent brakes as well.

Similar to mine. Mine is 1660 ( room left for further rebore if it becomes necessary ) , same Kent 234 camshaft, but in my case single DCOE - ignore the oil pump , that was only fitted to keep the muck out of the engine. Later canister type now fitted

The noise will be exceptional. Any forest roads near you?

Had a similar 1660 crossflow in my first car, a 74 Mk1 Escort 1300E back in 1986/87.
Plus 60thou rebore (1.5mm), pistons balanced, rods balanced for weight and end-for-end, Piper 285 cam, large inlet valves (larger than GT), ported head carefully matched to both manifold ports, lightened flywheel, hp oil pump, elec fuel pump, new rocker assembly and distributor, all new service items. Didn't try electronic ignition.

Ran it on twin 40 DCOEs for a while (thirsty) but also had a single downdraught 38 Weber DGqAS rebuilt from a 3-litre Capri rejetted for more economical running. The DGAS has both throttle flaps working at the same time so was quite torquey and very easy to drive but just took off once the revs built up, loved to rev. Lovely oldskool lumpy tickover too.
Engine made for a quick car at the time and great fun to drive, so easy to take beyond 7k rpm but I kept that as my limit most of the time.

Ran it through a Corsair 2000E / mexico spec 4 speed box, - high 1st gear then 3 closedly spaced gears. Lovely gearchange. And a 3.77 lsd. Welded on RS anti tramp kit and a panhard rod. 2.8i Capri struts and Escort ban rear springs with lowering blocks. Quick rack too which made for HEAVY steering at low speed nut really suited the car when speed picked up.

Real fun car to drive.

I know of a few crossflows having been bored out to around 1840 but they usually had problems with headgaskets. A 1600 crossflow block, believe it or not, is a rare item now.

I note you have the now rare Dunlop alloys, very cool. There was a time in the 80s when these wheels dropped out of fashion and a decent set could be picked up for £20.

James that is one lovely 123E and a very nice looking engine too. I have a very soft spot for these (owned 4 of them over the years), wish I'd never sold this one...

... which had all the running gear from a Mk2 Escort 1600 in it.

This...

... has a 1690cc Pre-crossflow (based on a Lotus block) running a 28/36DCD Weber, estimated power 115bhp at the flywheel; built for me by Burtons.

That sounds like a really good spec crossflow. I am not worried about fuel consumption as it will only be used for fun. The guy who built my engine races an anglia so has a good knowledge of the cars and engines and it has all been balanced and lightened. It is on elec ignition so should be reliable. I did the gearbox last week, combined the original anglia 1200 gearbox with a 2000e so no need to chop the car but will get better ratio's. When the funds allow I will have a brand new gearbox fitted but that is a little way down the line. At the minute the rear end is standard (well lowered and polybushed) but I will be looking at that hopefully next winter after a year of enjoyment, that's the plan.

Anglia rear end is strong, loads of ratios to choose from and lsds readily available thanks to the strong Mk1 Escort scrne. A well built crossflow will take lots of abuse. I passed my engine onto someone else when I got into 3-litre Capris and the last I heard it had done over 30k miles with only routine maintenance and still going strong.

Old Fords of the 60s and 70s are a joy to work on mechanically and to learn the basics, so simple and straightforward and rewarding to modify.

Look forward to updates on your Anglia.

Thanks. I am complete newbie at this so I am going for nothing silly or outlandish, just bolt on tried and tested modifications that will make the car more use able and fun. Also picked up the exhaust manifold, just waiting on a few bits, then hopefully will be able to get the engine and gearbox in.
