I'm used to the size now -- and the vagaries of OSX (folders and files intermingled).
The hard drive noise irritates me slightly when it wakes up. Only a few seconds but an eery wind like noise. Couldn't work out what it was at first.
Are you sure it's not a fan instead of the hdd? Don't these come with ssd? The hard drive noise irritates me slightly when it wakes up. Only a few seconds but an eery wind like noise. Couldn't work out what it was at first.

Only come with SSD if you configure it that way.I've not noticed my fan coming on yet, and there's obviously no noise from the SSD in there. Even if it was a HDD version any noise would be drowned out* by the seek/access noise from the disks in my Thunderbay.
- this drowning out is relative of course, as it's only noticeable when everything else is silent in the office.

It is the hard disk. My study is silent, and the PC this replaces had an SSD and a near-silent hard drive (plus it was under the desk of course).I've not noticed my fan coming on yet, and there's obviously no noise from the SSD in there. Currently deciding if I need a laptop or a desktop...... or a big desktop & a little laptop....
I've gone from iMac/iPad/iPhone to iMac/MacBook/iPhone, I find that the big desktop/ little laptop combination work well, as when I'm at home I want a big screen and lots of storage, whereas out and about I want a proper operating system in as small a form factor as possible. I would have been happy with a powerful laptop and simple docking station combination, but that was looking like it would be more expensive than an iMac/MacBook set up.Craikeybaby said:

Out of interest which book did you go for?
I'm thinking 27" iMac then probabaly a 13" Macbook or more likely an Air although i'd still like retina so may plump for the 12" Macbook.

Unless you need a lot of processing power I'd say go for the 12" Macbook. The only trouble with the 5K iMac is that it makes all other screens look rubbish, so you'll probably want a laptop with retina display rather than the Air.It looks like the 12" MacBook has just been updated: http://www.macrumors.com/2016/04/19/new-2016-12-in...
My home office has an ancient pc and a docking station for my work laptop, its a paint to switch between them, half a kvm for the k and m and the desktop is plugged into the analogue and the laptop the digital inputs of the 2 monitors.
It drives my wife made when she wants to use the fairly knackered 8 year old Tesco Medion desktop, upgraded over the years but fairly well on its way out.
So, cant have any more than two monitors, was thinking of using a Mac for the the main stuff like Outlook and Lync and possibly haivng my laptop ont he network and RDP'ing to it for connections to stuff on the work network.
Was thinking a 27 with the 1Tb hybrid and 8gb.
