The opening of Quantum of Solace. The mood music cutting to the sound of the Aston in the tunnel is epic.

Apollo 13 launch scene mentioned earlier. If you like this, try In the Shadow of the Moon. A Film4 docu-film from 2006 or so, with Apollo astronaut talking heads mixed with original footage. Intro shots of a Saturn launch really get me every time.

The death of the baby scene in Trainspotting. Difficult watch at the time, not least because my daughter was the same age frown

I probably shouldn't have clicked onto that!

It has been years since I watched Trainspotting and it was before I had children, whilst I remeber it being a tough watch back then, watching it now brought a whole new dread and meaning to it!

Big Fish - where he lowers his father into the water and he becomes a fish. Really moves me that film
Wonderful film. Not many people I know like it but I love it and the concept.

For me it's the bit st the end where all the people turn up to his funeral. And the bit where his son is looking thru his stuff in the shed. Love it.

For tension.
The scene from Ice station Zebra where the sub is sabotaged and nearly sinks.

Das Boot must deserve a mention- sinking below the Max depth, when the engine starts up again.

Downfall has some great ones too. Bruno Ganz' rant is epic. But the scene where the kids end up shooting each other rather than be captured is another that sticks in memory.

The Heat shootout scene was my go to surround sound system demo when my mates came over. For tension and action, it's up there with the best.

Dead Man's Shoes - the "what you looking at" scene. First time I saw that I actually moved back into my seat.

Something that just popped into my head...Robert Prosky dropping his 'benevolent jovial uncle' act in "Thief". And then the climax with Caan torching his own business and setting out to settle scores.

There is a film (maybe a TVs movie) starring Kevin Bacon called taking chance, about escorting a fallen soldier which is pretty emotional.

Heat
The shoot out in the street
Watched it in the cinema, and the sound was amazing
loses some of its magic when you don't have the ability to recreate the quality and level of sound at home
