The yellow hr Owen car shows where the market is at blinking up on autotrader at 299,950 for a couple of days. So that's well specced right hand drive with 3500 miles on clock in yellow sold in soggy windy December

Doesn't seem unreasonable to expect prices to be higher in the spring does it? Sadly by the end of next year most will be with long term collectors and it'll be even harder to find one to actually drive...

May be difficult to find one but I don't agree that most of the 200 plus UK Speciales will be with "collectors" by the end of next year.To my mind this was a car bought mainly by enthusiasts who want to drive it.At the time of ordering market had not taken off in quite the way it has recently so expectation would have been price drop from new with value coming back a bit after 5 or so years (CS and Scuderia).
As other owners on here have said this car is a keeper because it is so good to drive not because it is appreciating in a pretty silly market.

PS.I'd love to know who all the mythical "collectors" are that are referred to so often on this forum.

@ajr550 mythical? To illustrate the point take a look at the 18 F40s in the classifieds. One of 18 has done over 1000 miles per year and most have done less than 10000 miles over their 25 years of existance. argue f40s are different if you like but I see them as the era defining "unicorn" v8 Ferrari of their time just as the 458 spec will be at some point.

Anyway I'm on the spank the pants off it you're only here once team

Don't know and didn't care when ordering.
Speciale was never a limited edition model. From your research I think now over 200 in UK (including Apertas which were limited edition).

Fair enough and I make it as 245 with Apertas and the 10 or 20 LHD's here

I would argue F40 is different.I'd love to own one but if I did I couldn't see myself doing huge mileage in it.Not to protect value just because it is that type of car.
Not disagreeing with you that there are both speculators and collectors out there but in my naive view I think (and hope) there are far more enthusiasts !!!
If you are after a Speciale I hope you get one. They are brilliant.
My market predictions are terrible but I think we are just at the start of a downward correction (not seasonal) so I would not be so sure that Speciale prices will move only one way.

Rubbish! I've met a few owners and they all drive theirs, one even giving it some serious beans at the ring and Spa. I think the minority of these things end up delivery mileage collectors cars with most being driven. Just look at the CS and Scud market, healthy spread on prices driven generally by mileage and condition...

Sounds encouraging can't wait for spa next year (probably the Rma one in spring). Did you have any noise issues with the U.K. Dates?

Spa is a must especially in a car like the Speciale.I have done the Rma September two day event for the last three years and it is just amazing.Met some fellow Pistonheaders this year and it was amazing.

Just make sure you have a fresh set of tyres before you go as mine were destroyed by the afternoon of the first day but i did do a fair bit of track time and passenger laps.

What is Spa like in terms of run-off room if you get it wrong? Loads of room like Silverstone, or is the armco rather closer?

Yes most corners as per all F! circuits now have lots of Tarmac so you can just use it if you get it wrong especially Blancimont which used to be a real butt
tightener now no fear factor at all .......so safe now except the exit of Eau Rouge ..........this is car right off land if you get it wrong ....

There is plenty of run off but there are still a couple of places to take a little care if you are not familiar with the track.I found it one of the easiest tracks to pick up and then fine tune for some reason. It just seems to flow superbly well and there are a few sections where when you get it right seem so rewarding.I have never wanted to stay out on any circuit for as many laps as Spa.

can't remember the exact figure but I calculated that driving from London to Manchester and back would cost something like ~£15,000 in depreciation alone in an F40, pretty absurd really.
