Kind remarks appreciated, peeps, but -

(1) it is nothing really - just some letters, not rocket science.

(2) do not ice the Tesco Prosecco just yet, as the buyer may be stubborn enough to sue.

If he does, he will be more likely, in my view, to lose than to win but there is always mad Judge factor to contend with, and mad Judges are more frequently encountered at the lower end of the system where this case would happen than they are higher up the ladder. Also, the stress and hassle that the OP will face if the buyer sues are not to be underestimated. I do litigation for a living and I can tell you that litigation sucks great big enormous sweaty monkey balls. I hope that it does not come to that, but I suggest that we hold off cheering for a bit.

If I had to bet at even odds one way or the other, I would put money on the nutter bringing a claim.

We can all play SPECULATION: the family fun board game where you predict the future.

My reading is that the guy is unlikely to take it any further, he seems fairly calculating in what he's done so far. Ill informed maybe, but hardly the actions of someone who isn't really thinking about it. Threats tend to escalate.

Writing a latter bypassing the solicitors, playing the handicapped card to illicit sympathy, and reducing his demand (as a show of "goodwill" :/) just smacks of a climb-down in the face of resistance.

Mt prediction: Unlikely to take it any further. Maybe one extra attempt to 'accept' the OPs first offer of £3500.

EDIT: I'd take the bet at evens ORD.

You've made my day BV. I thought it was just me. I have experienced some bizarre judgements given in the small claims court. Mostly they were elicited by the Judge ignoring the facts and being overly influenced by the other parties bringing in emotional issues often related to supposed disabilities.

The only thing that is certain when you enter a courtroom is that the outcome is uncertain IME.

This thread will peter out into a big disappointment like the silly nazi bunker thread, the nutter will realise he has been going up a blind alley and the OP will have spent a month worrying about nothing.

Considering it was 7 years ago and I summarised a 200+page thread in about 30 secs I didn't do too badly! wink
