You'll know when the price is right when your phone starts ringing.

Just take your time, bringing the price down bit by bit. You'll spend extra money on advertising, but that is usually covered with the higher price you sell for. Some will argue it doesn't help the sale being on the market too long, but the above approach has always worked for me.

Good luck!

Private buyers want an absolute bargain - or something special/rare
That is the best summary i have seen of the state of the market.
Yes and no. The latter bit I'd agree with, but the former has a decent set of roots in the mentality of sellers (in a house sense) that a cheap but new & shiney kitchen puts 20k on a crappy house.
Sensible value is at least as prevalent as bargain.

In terms of the car in question, an extra 50 - 100 ?? per month, maybe less, gets you a younger, prettier & faster model with better performance, more toys, warranty, dealer support and so on. So, for a non special car, why?

Unless the price is right, which it isn't.

If your car isnt cheapest (or in the lowest 2 or 3) when sorted by price, the phone usually doesnt ring.

Therefore if its not a "bargain" in the first place, they're not interested.

A car may have been nursed like a baby since new and worth more than the "just picked it up from auction the night before but selling it because the wife doesnt like it" brigade, but buyers predominantly see price not provenance.

I always wanted an S3 before 2-3yrs back and second hand prices seemed ok / good value, I started looking again in last few months at S3's and the one thing that struck me straight away was they didn't seem to be good value second hand anymore so I didn't take it any further. I was expecting a 12 plate for around the £15-16k mark.

Would have no problem spending more than £10K privately, many many many spend considerably more than this.

All you get from dealers is a higher price and a st deal.
