Mmm - For me, everything still points to a Sunbeam/Rootes connection:

Very Alpine in shape
Front screen I reckon is either the front or rear screen from a Mk1 Humber Sceptre (very much like the Cresta's mentioned in a post earlier, but much smaller.
Hub caps look Rootes

Possibly a (very well executed) one - off modified Alpine by a DIY customiser?

What are other PHer's thoughts re the wheel diameter to wheelbase proportions. The car looks to have a wheelbase of around 60 to 72 inches depending on wheel size 12 to 15 inches, assuming pic is not distorted.

This appears to be a very small car. Maybe.

Edit, the woman in the foreground isn't looking too happy. Maybe she's just had her legs scorched from the jet engine.

They must be very tiny as I cannot see them in the photo, where as the mystery car ears are easily visible just as they would be if if they were real and required a mallet to release them.

The Daimler Dart wheel trims did not have two ears like the mystery car
No, there were three ears and the trims looked like these

I thought that from the beginning, by the shape of the fin and the wheelarch lips but I've gone off the idea, there's a massive slope of the bonnet relative to the headlight cowl and wings, and the distance from wheelarch to a pillar looks much longer
it would be a complete rebody

Thanks for that, I can see them now, the ears on the trims on the mystery car look more real life size, I have been through my Observers book of cars through the sixties volumes and cannot see anything like them, even on the Rootes cars, they are very ornate, something keeps telling me they are French. I have looked at everything Panhard with no success, this is proving to be very difficult.

Could it be a pre-production / prototype of the Sunbeam Alpine ? In the end, if we can't resolve it, maybe Haymarket need to stick it in Classic and Sportscar as the name the mystery vehicle feature.

As I said before, only the screen of the Ashley 750 gull wing appears similar to the mystery car.

So far only small elements of its body show any similarity to other designs, so I think we may be dealing with a completely bespoke bodyshell.

So, back to the mystery..

Front or rear engined ?
Overriders not common on cars of this style.
Are those reinforcing ribs on the rear screen - possibly suggesting it's perspex ? Or is it an opening rear screen ?

Chaps

I've been exploring another avenue... I thought there might be a hint of GM in there...Lights... windscreen surround....

I even started thinking it might be some kind of Vauxhall/ Opel diluted Corvette..

On researching that idea I found this rather nice prototype on Vauxpedia... so they were going more towards Jag in their prototypes.

Then back to Simca... there are hints of the plein ciel...

Which led me back to Abarth again... and thought I was so close....

and

But did find this nice website... http://leroux.andre.free.fr/revivalabarthbis.htm#1... so many close shaves on there...

Windscreen could be a Minx rear screen maybe?

I keep thinking it has many René Bonnet design elements.

Miles out: Windscreen angle is opposite, lights are enclosed and apertures different. I'd bet the rear is completely different as well...oh, look, it is:

Very good point as it could provide valuable clues. Still think it's Frogeye based..............
