Yes, I know it's a 5.5, yes I have declared different wheels, brakes and roll bar but still, for a careful, claim free, experienced, (err hmm) driver, a bit steep I thought.

Are there any other reputable sensibly priced insurers that are recommended?

Hi Peter. There's a company who also insure the TVR against risk when doing speed events if that's of any interest.

Peter, i use Peter S. Taylor & Co. 01273 820303.

They were recommended to me by a friend for kit cars and the like after i also got stupid quotes from Mr. Flux. I pay £130 all mods declared but with a 3k annual mileage.

Automatic cover while at non-competitive club-organised track days, hill climbs and sprints.

(the Speed Championships are counted as non-competitive as only 1 car on track)

I swapped to Classic Line this year, around £300 from memory with 28k agreed value, track day cover, full comp and 5k miles.

The surprise for me was Footman James coming in a £176 but pay extra for trackdays and only up a a maximum of 3.

Footman James. Quote for my 390SE was £100 compared to £150 for Adrian Flux. 3000 miles, not garaged (although it is now), including to/from work. Well impressed.

Hi Peter,

I had a similar challenge. The insurers don't seem to like a few extra c c's on top of the standard 5ltr on a classic car policy.

I am with Classicline too. Best quote, best service, includes full breakdown cover including Europe, 6 track days a year.
Call Chloe on 01455 639000. Discount if you are a TVRCC member too.
Last week I rang them about one of our Saabs. Two younger drivers as well as me. Nodding dog wanted £425 on renewal. Meerkat wanted £273 (Tescos). Classicline quoted £277, Equity Red Star, same as my TVR, including all the extras apart from trackdays, without knowing the other quotes. We've gone with them, not least because you always get through to the right person within 60 seconds of dialing.

Edited to remove a stray apostrophe in "Saabs" that auto-correct inserted without me noticing furious

I have never had an even half decent quote from Flux, so I restrict their use to soldering and capacitors. whistle

I've just insured with Mannings for the first time and they were brilliant. Won't touch forced induction but other power mods just cost 10% premium load per 10% power hike (after the first 10% I think). Other mods such as suspension don't carry anything. Track day and foreign trip cover as standard. TVRCC discount. You can use any specialist for any claim (including windscreen). They also do related car policies (not the standard multi-car) and gave me 10 years no-claims on the second car when I'd only actually built up 2 on a stand-alone. Tuscan and Fiat 500 cost me abour £550 together (think the Tuscan was about £330 out of that) and I'm no longer TVRCC so that's without discount.

Couldn't get beyond the first question with Footman James - Thatcham approved alarm installation (not sure how any TVR owner is getting past this).

I used to be with Mannings when I first had the car. Cover was fine until I needed more miles, at which point they just said "no". Hence the change to the far more flexible Classic Line. Only issue with them, if you call it an issue, is that their inclusive track day cover is limited to 6 a year, after which it costs £53 per event.

So, who's counting? Or do you have to notify them?
