The rest were cars that had been (at best...) converted by RUF.
I should have bought the green car in Jersey, but the asking price was nigh on double the asking prices for the non-RUF chassis numbered cars and at the time I wasn't convinced the premium was deserved. The market has proven me wrong!
Finally, wasn't the BTR the model based on the 964, or is my elderly memory failing me?
I just got the papers from RUF confirming the conversion in July 1991, and completed in october the same year.
Havent driven it yet no, as for the VIN debacle, only 14 of the 29 cars have a proper VIN number - in my opinion its not a big deal as the entire conversion is a complete reshell anyway.

The Ruf VIN models stopped being produced because Porsche ran out of new shells IIRC so the retrofit ones are not really reshells but use the existing shell but I agree there is no discernible difference apart from the plaque. If my old girl does not sell I have been thinking for a while of creating a modern day equivalent of the CTR. A good few years back I remember a good mate phoning to tell me there was a yellow one for sale. I think it was £70 or £80K. When I telephoned about the car the price had gone up by £10K. Said it was a misprint in the add. That just pee'd me off so did not bother pursuing it. Another guy I knew was also interested in the CTR but my mate refused to give him the number as he did not consider his level of ability good enough to own one

I think your friend was spot on. A yelllowbird in inexperienced hands is like giving a child a gun. Main reason I've stayed away from big power turbo cars without tc. Makes the widowmaker `GT2 seem civilised by comparison.rubystone said:

That was for sale at SCM for over 10 years for circa £75k. Its a BTR and not comparable to a CTR in any way. http://www.johnhollandsales.co.uk/used-cars/531699...
CTR lightweight, narrow body, 3.4 based on 3.2 Carrera engine. Chassis reinforced and ultra stiff so that the gutters could be cut away from roof line. Not even Alois Ruf was particularly enthusiastic about the Ruf BTRs based on 930 flatnose. Overweight and did not handle. Funny it looks cheap now having been for sale at a relatively cheap price for quite some time but I thought it was expensive at £75k!!

I am trying to track down history on my car, and I found this old photo on google - its clearly a Mint CTR so it might very well be my car!
Now the plates read MN PV 911, but I cant tell whether it says I or F ( Italy or France) on the blue tag on the side of the plate.
Can someone help identifying the nationality of this plate?

Cant help with the history but just wanted to say that this is simply THE all time hero car for me. I visited RUF a couple of years ago and wrote an article for the World 964 Owners. I drove a an RCt from memory, it was Alois' own car putting out about 420bhp. Surprisingly refined and lag free. But the Yellowbird CTR is the one i've always hankered after, what a legendary car. Way ahead of its time, an absolutely awesome thing.
Keeping it going will be pricey, the CRT's were far more bespoke than the RCT which basically uses pretty much the same suspension, gearbox and main components.. but it's worth it. Dying to hear your impressions on this car once you get a drive..

My dad owned a green ctr years ago I'm pretty sure his was a darker green .
I remember being around 10 as a passenger thinking my heart was going to explode such was the accleration when turbos kick in .
The old man still has a ruf btr sadly not in the greatest condition atm hope to change that this year. He also has a 964 wide body speedster that is immaculate.
