A drawer in the utility room with "odds and sods" in it like batteries, meter cabinet keys, hex keys, screwdrivers for glasses and so on.
We had one, moved house and now have 3 of the damn things!

A decent overcoat for the winter ,a proper knee length jobbie in a dark colour in a cashmere mix.
Looks smart with anything and fantastically warm .
Look like a proper powerful company director getting out of the jag or an old style villian.

I recently purchased a diamond coated lawnmower blade sharpening tool from aldi, I'm really proud of it and tell anyone who I thinks listening. It's strange but most develop an urgent compulsion to get somewhere else quickly...
Must have missed that special-buy. Nuts.

OK, so at 58 I could be classed as upper-middle-age.

Golf - pointless game, no thanks.
Shotgun - more than one and other firearms.
Dinner jacket, black suit and tie, tweed jacket, tweed shooting suits, blazer - got the lot.
Nice shoes and decent pocket watch.
No mistress - but on second wife if that counts!
I can cook reasonably well, but try not to do it too often.
No tool drawer but a fully equipped 3000+sqft workshop/playroom.
Land Rover
Large estate car
TVR
Silly 500+bhp/tonne toy.
V8 drop top
Semi-retired, self employed.
Wear casual clothes to 'work'. I am the boss after all!
Wine cellar, but I seem to drink it too quickly. Smoking is for mugs!
The ability to stop and enjoy what nature gifts us every day.

Oh, and a few 27lit V12 engines waiting for a chassis to house them....

After all the above I think success is not 'things' you have, but how you enjoy life.
It's not a rehearsal.

I've not much more to add to what's already been posted, apart from :-

A nice umbrella (and certainly not a "golf" one that's ostentatiously large, and covered in logos)
At least one car that is petrol powered, with more than four cylinders
A good wax jacket

Indeed, all this talk of tweed, golf clubs and dinner jackets.... this has turned into the "things an elderly man should own" thread.

60 or 70 is not middle aged you bunch of grinners.

Not sure about things I should own. But stuff that I have.

Lots of whisky.
I have this, and don't even like Whisky that much, just seems to be the default gift choice from people once you reach a certain age.

At 41 I bought my first ever blazer this year.
woohoo Me too biggrin Bought last week. Planning to wear it in anger for the first time tomorrow.
My job changed to consultant earlier in the year which means I get to spend lots of time hanging out with other consultants in my region. They all wear them in Europe, it's like a uniform. I was in our Luebeck office with a collegue wearing jeans and a junper and we just looked at each other and said, we really need blazers biggrin

I'm only 33 so have a few years yet before middle age but I don't think I want any of these things other than a whisky collection (which I already have) and perhaps a fasy estate (which I'm vaguely searching for now).

I do have a few other things mentioned though which are far more important like a chainsaw, shed, workshop full of tools etc.

By middle age I'd like a fast estate, a dog and general contentment and I'll be sorted.
I'll be 33 in a couple of weeks:

1) Fast Estate - check (Jag)
2) A couple of bottles of single malt in the cupboard - yep
3) Faithful hound - yes
4) Flat cap (from when I had the TVR) - yes
5) Younger wife - yep

Very happy with my lot!

The average male lives to 79/80 so:

0-26 = Young
27-53 = Middle Ages
54- 80 = Old

That's the reality really.
