Same again, sir?
Discussion
Generally, I like to try different things and mix it up a little: different foods, beers, phones, computers, bikes etc. Variety is the spice of life, and all that...
But how far would you take It with a car given the faff and financial outlay? F'instance, if you had a car that fitted your needs _perfectly_, come the time for replacement, would you buy the same again, or you would you go for something different, purely because it's, well...different?
Just curious

I've thought about this lately as well. I've got a leased SLK 250 CDI AMG in black/black as my daily driver and have been thinking what to replace it with at the end of the lease. So far the most likely replacement is an SLK 250 CDI AMG in black/black. But how far would you take It with a car given the faff and financial outlay? How do you find the SLK 250cdi? I presume you like it if going for the same again?
I find it an excellent car hence why i'm struggling to think of a better replacement. Very cheap to lease, great MPG, fairly quick for what it is, looks great and the interior is a nice place to be. I recently did a 700 mile road trip up to the highlands and took it instead of the R8! (it was 21 degrees right enough so the retractable roof made the decision for me though to be fair)I had a white insignia VX line estate specked upto the tee purchased as an ex demo. Loved it, great car and was easily as refined as the Merc/BMW equivalent, did about 50,000 miles in it in about 2 years.
Ended up selling it as it was a bit too big for just the two of us and one dog.
Then we ended up with a 2nd dog, so needed a bigger car again.
Purchased another insignia, again an ex demo VX line in white with all the toys, but this time a new (and improved) shape?
WORST CAR EVER
Cost us £24,000 and broke down 4 times in 4 months and all the new tech was just useless and slow.
It went ASAP and id never have another now.
So no, not always does the same mean good/safe

I'm thinking the same. My vRS is due to end the lease in just over a years time. I still enjoy driving the car but my dilemma is do I just to buy it out and have the car I know the whole history of but no warranty (I know I can buy one) or just get another PCP deal. We'll see in a year I'll probably have changed my mind again.

Why replace if it fits the bill?
End of lease, car stolen, destroyed in crash, discarded due to Bangernomics, etc.I had a sierra xr4x4 which I loved but foolishly sold it to buy a house then I realised I could still afford one so got another one in exactly the same colour and kept it for 5 and a half years until a clown crashed into me and wrote it off.
I keep thinking of buying another s14 200sx because that has been the most favourite car I have owned but I do keep wondering if I would be disappointed going back to one after nearly 10 years.

Is that the AMG? Not just a SLK?We're looking at replacing a 330i with a 430d. I love the E92 as it's fun to drive, comfy and quite understated for the performance on offer. 132k later it still feels brilliant. Test drove the 430d and it felt lifeless in comparison, arcade game steering and it seemed to disconnect the driver rather than involve them.
Funny as progress doesn't always equal more fun.

I'm going to have the same issue when the time comes to replace the Cayenne. It's such a great package for what I use it for and despite the fact I virtually live in it I love driving it.
The replacement would have to be quick, do 30mpg with my driving, sound good, tow large trailers, have plenty of space, be comfortable on long runs, handle well enough, be able to wade, have a nice interior...
The Range Sport V8 Diesel might fit the bill but it doesn't sound as good and isn't as quick.
Upsettingly I think they're discontinuing the V8 diesel so I may not be able to get another once I've finished with this one. It's a great everyday car for me. I may well end up just running it into the ground.
