I'm betting on a 6.0 or 7.0L twin-turbo V8 with an hybrid module.
The advancements in turbo technology of the last years could allow such engine to attain 200-250 hp/L without many problems.

I believe some people in this topic miss the "point" of a car like this.

and for good measure:

THIS is the target audience. Not technology enthusiasts. Not design connoisseurs who stare at their car in the garage. Not people who take their car to race tracks all around the world. Those would prefer a 918, P1 or LaF.

With a car like this, the cost isn't a downside, it's its best feature.

all supercars are designed to be flashy and expensive to standout from other cars in an ostentatious display of wealth, the only difference with the Veyron is that it was the first £1m production car and happened to be faster than everything else at the time as well as more expensive.

floyd mayweather is maybe the biggest 'show off' of all time and is not a fair example of a typical veyron owner.

What a superb summary, I agree with all the points you make! I see it as just a straight line power house for the people who value other peoples' opinions over actual driving pleasure, which defeats the point of the car surely.. If I did happen to be in the market for a car with a pretty ridiculous top speed I'd be straight over to Koenigsegg, people seem to forget the CCXR range could manage over 250mph, I personally don't see why the Veyron had such a following...
Often for these customers it's not a case of one or the other, so they don't need to compare based on 1 attribute.

The idea of the veyron was about the mad top speed but retaining all the luxury and comfort inside. In fact one of the things the test drivers do when they take prospective customers out is taking their hands off the wheel and performing a high speed emergency stop to show how stable and controlled the car is. so it's never going to be full of feedback, but then that's not the only measure of a car.
Oh absolutely I'm not disputing that. The Veyron is a car that can do it all, by far the most over-engineered and capable car we've seen. However I feel it lacks character, wouldn't feel special enough compared to a Pagani/Koenigsegg and realistically wouldn't be better than a Bentley at mile munching. I guess it's just not my type of car, something I wouldn't enjoy owning, even if I had the money

Anyone know what goes wrong with a Veyron? Have there been any issues of TADTS with it or are they fairly robust out in the wild?

Its unlikely that the majority of people ponying up for the 100 pre orders for the Chiron don't already have a selection of far more suitable cars for those days they feel like a more involved drive. Its not like normal people who have to make careful decisions on the one or two cars they are lucky enough to own that have to cover multiple requirements and compromise their car choice.

I can't wait to see the confirmed numbers for the new car, will need to be something special after the last batch of hyper cars.

Set of tyres: £20000 (one set lasts 10000 miles if you're careful, 2500 miles if you do a lot of launches or only 15 minutes if you drive at top speed)
Annual service: £20000
Oil change: £14000 (i was told the engine heads need to come off to reach the oil inspection area)
New set of wheels is requried after every third set of tyres because they glue the tyres to the wheels: £80000 (every 7500-30000 miles)
etc.

These figures are often bandied about, but are maintenance items and for the purpose of this query I'm not really interested in the maintenance costs.
What goes wrong with the cars?

A very childish statement for your 38th post on P/H. Troll?
Really? What's more childish: having an opinion on a car or shrieking accusations at someone who has an opinion you disagree with? (All whilst apparently grading people on number of posts.)
You might want to obtain some perspective rather than berating strangers.

Vw, whatever you do with it, ditch the terrible grille. It had a purpose in its day but it has no place now.
Surely one of your talented designers can reinterpret it for the current climate?

amusing to see VW Group blowing wad on this project at the same time they are on the hook for $bns due to the emissions-gate stuff.

even at something in the millions per car, they are going to be subsidising their customers something awful, I would think.

just shows that the emissions guff is more of a mosquito bite to VW than a death blow.

I think that this project could well be in profit, as the Veyron surely is by now.

I can't even afford a veyron :-( so I won't be getting one of these either. Love the idea of it. It's not aimed at track cars or even the 918, P1, LaF. It will be in a group of one.

I'd agree with all of that apart from including a mention of that Lykan tosh in the same breath as those other cars. laugh
It was engineered by RUF, who know what they are doing. Tosh it is not.

As for the Chiron - makes the Verywrong look pretty. It's utterly wrong-headed. Daft idea. Should have built the Galibier instead, at least that was a bit like a modern Royale.

Not a chance. It'll be 500cc per cylinder, whatever it is. Wouldn't be surprised to see it 'downsize' to the Bentley W12.

Charon was a bit of a steady, calm paddler though. Speed was never his thing.
It didn't need to be - all his passengers were already late.

When you take into account all the costs, including development, they lost about 2 billion on the Veyron, sold 450 in total.

So around £2222222 loss/negative per car sold.

They will never make money it is a folly in extravagance.
