Citroen Visa GTi

I love Citroens, but the Visa was a horrible poverty spec 2CV replacement and whilst the Peugeot GTi driveline was spirited, it couldn't break free from its horribly humble roots.

It's essentially a 205 GTi but with much better rear suspension. What's not to like?

Lighter too, I think?

I also wondered what's wrong with the Visa. The AX GT was definitely good

For some reason, when I read this I interpreted it as your suggestion that the 2.0 8V Golf GTI has improved with time laugh
Counter challenge: Have you found a way to make it worse?

Agree. Great fun to drive. Had one. Things did break on a regular basis though.

I think the OP answered the question correctly in the first post.

Oooh, that's a good question. I'm going to think of a good way.

I remember them as being pretty comfortable, so I suppose lowering on rock hard springs and stupid wheels with stretched tyres?

Ford Escort gti, years ago when i was younger someone had one at a cricket club i used to go to had one and always used to bang on about how rare they were and how fast it was. Taking us for a 'spin' confirmed why Ford had sold so few

MK4 Golf 2.0 gti also has to be up there, a friend had one that was a few years old in silver, lowered with TT alloys and it looked great however it was very average in every single way. 115bhp meant any normal family saloon with a reasonable sized petrol engine was just as fast. Lazy effort from VW

Hmph. Indeed.

Your game, I think.

The Fiesta ST. Maybe it was just mine, but I just do not see what all the fuss was about. Very crashy and not put together very well.

And compared to the opposition, completely underpowered.

The newest Clio sport, haven't driven one to be fair but automatic, 5 doors, heavy and turbo'd is everything Clio shouldn't be

Fiat Strada Abarth, Fiat Uno Turbo, Fiat Punto Abarth, Fiat 500 Abarth...

Obviously I've never driven or owned any of these cars, I just don't like Fiats...

Another vote for the mk4 2.0 gti. I had one, I don't know why. It was st. Underpowered, heavy, lazy, boring, I could go on. It was built quite well though and was fairly comfortable. Was actually pretty decent on fuel too! BUT it was everything a hot hatch shouldn't be. Utter utter poo!

Hah! Clearly...I am now on my second A500...fantastic car. Ive owned 3x E30's (316i,318is,325i sport), 2XE36's (328i sports) 2x E46 330ci's, a W202 C36, a JCW Mini R53, a 172 Cup and a handful of other cars...and I don't think I've loved any of them quite as much as I love my 180hp 595!

Fiat Strada - A hatch well ahead of its time - we haven't seen its advance weight reduction technology used to as good effect by any other manufacturer. The longer you owned one the lighter it got as the rust ate away at it!

I read the thread title and the Mk3 Golf GTi immediately sprang to mind before reading.

I thought the Fiesta was one of the most powerful in class. 197bhp or 215 with mountune version.

Definitely the Golf mk4 2.0 GTI and the mk3 2.0 8 valve (I had a couple of 16 valves which are better) and I didn't find the VR6 that great either always felt like it should handle better and be a bit quicker.

The Escort GTI or SI are just a badge no difference I think in power to a 1.8 Ghia or similar although the GTI did look quite nice in a 3 door in its day with the body kit and small Escort Cosworth wheels

Another one I couldn't get on with was the Peugeot 206 GTI I have had both pass through my hands the 150 BHP and 180 BHP and didn't think either was that good.

206 180 is what i currently drive. I don't think it's the worst hot hatch, but it sure isn't the best. Too many niggles to really be great, and quite a disappointment after the company had recently stopped making the 306 Gti6.

Pretty quick mind.

I always thought the 1st gen Civic Type S just looked like a special edition trim... I've never driven one, so can't comment properly, I'm basing it purely on looks.

Pretty much is just another trim level with minor changes if it's anything like the FN3 I had. Slightly more grunt, a few interior changes and a harsher ride.

I actually think the FN2 Type R was pretty dire, but mainly because it had a hell of a rep to live up to. As alluring as VTEC is, the whole package was pretty underwhelming imo.
