Hello all smile

A facelift C63 (2011 model) has, for a long time, been my "dream" car. I'm just getting close to being able to afford one, and wham, a spanner gets thrown in the works. I got to spend 24 hours with a top spec Ghibli S earlier this week, and I sort of fell in love with it.

I'm not really sure why I liked it so much. It certainly isn't the prettiest Maserati (although the front looks great) and the interior quality has suffered slightly with the Chrysler merge, but for some reason I haven't been able to stop wanting one since.

I suppose what I'm asking is for opinions from those of you who have had experiences with either or both of these vehicles, and which would you choose?

My thought process goes something like this:

- Maserati: Pros - looks nice, sounds great, lots of toys, gets a lot of attention because "it's a Maserati", better MPG.
- Maserati: Cons - not as fast as the C63, arguably sounds worse, heavier than C63, infotainment system seems a bit dated?

- Mercedes Pros - amazing V8 sound, better drive all round, better infotainment system, faster.
- Mercedes Cons - "just a c class" to most people, worse MPG, no wow factor.

I am basing these thoughts on short drives in both cars (Mercedes I had for a few hours, Maserati for an evening and following morning). What do people agree / disagree with? I guess I'm just asking for some help!

Thank you smile

Have you looked at the servicing costs for the Maserati?

That might just swing it for you!! biggrin

I do think it is the cheapest Maserati so far.

I should also mention my mileage is 16,000 per year. So these costs will likely rack up in no time!

Thanks for the servicing info. Hadn't seen that before.

Apart from Maser badge on the front I can't think of any reason at all to get one

Definitely the c63. The Ghibli engine is boring in comparison.

The C63 has been on my want list for some time but I would go for the Maser for its looks and rarity and I just love the Ghibli.

So you're just about to able to afford a £28.5k car (judging by PH classifieds) and now want a £55+k car (judging by PH classifieds)?

My guess is you can't afford a Ghibli yet.

I like the Maserati for the novelty of it being a Maserati, but it would have to be cheap to make sense I think. The only 'advantage' it has over the Mercedes though is that point - it's a Maserati and other people might think "oh, that's nice". On the other hand, who cares if other people like your car? It's you driving it and owning it, not them.

If we assume you can afford to run either, the Mercedes is in every way a tangibly better car. I'd suggest also that if you're worried about what other people think of your car, while 90% of people might look at it and think "it's a Mercedes", the 10% who matter (i.e. fellow PHers) will think "oooh, a C63". They'd probably think "that's interesting... anyway, moving on" about the Maser.

My apologies. When I said 2011 model, I was referring to the facelift versions that were made from 2011 onwards. The actual price range of the C63s I'm looking at are around £40,000 (low mileage 2013 plates mostly). The Ghibli S can also be had for around £45k, so they aren't too far apart in terms of price.

Hope that clears it up. The Ghibli will need a bit more saving time, but ultimately both are within my budget in one way or another.

The Ghibli is a very nice car but the C63 is an exceptional car & that engine is a cracker.
