Just found out that the garage forgot to remove the tracker on my car, after a bit of negotiation, they said can keep for £250, its a RAC trackstar, subs. £120pa..

Whats the general concensus on these, my insurance company (admiral) adv. no discount available, which is suprising!.

Why would the garage want to take it out? Would cost £100 to have it removed professionally. It's only 299 for a new one.
So you've bought a car and now they're trying to charge you £250 because they forgot to take it out? Tell them to stick it. They can't do anything with a second hand tracker!

I have an RAC one, phone them (after driving the car for 10 mins) and get them to do a test track before you part with any money. Pay 320 for lifetime if you're gonna keep it.

£299 new, where can you get it for that price? Best I've seen after quick scan is £429...

Not really going to tell them to stick it, as have good relationship so far, like finishing off bits I'm finding after driving etc..

yes, you're right, 299 fitting + 120.

Anyway, how can they charge you for something that was already on the car? That's crazy!
If they take it off there is nothing they can do with it. Not worth a bean second hand!

The garage fits the trackers to all their cars that are on the forecourt, then remove when sold and refit to next..

Didnt realise the £420 odd inc. the 1st year sub...

I'd would want to see that it's been installed by a thatcham approved installer then. I've seen some great installations during my time as an auto electrician. If not, let them take it out.
I don't know of any RAC system that can be fitted and removed easily to make it worth while. They're pulling your leg I think.

How are they going to do that? I thought trackers of the various descriptions were black/brown wired so your typical car thief can't disable them, thus making them near on impossible to remove.

Sounds too much like a money making/cost recovery scheme in my opinion.
