As per the title really, what are the differences between the two?

No real reason for the question, it's just something I've always wondered and having never seen two side by side, I've never had the chance to look.

Old - carbon trim at base of rear window, carbon trim on edge of front windscreen
New - I think they are colour coded. Front trim is slightly shaped differently.

Headlights are different - large round on old
Rear lights are different

Differences in the location/performance of the heating/cooling piping and vents

Did the new one have a different numberplate cutout?
Did tyhe new one have a different sized windscreen/banding around it?

Thanks for the replies, I like the two cars parked next to each other.

It may just be the way the Mk2 is angled but it looks bulkier and a bit shorter at the front. Are the two variants body's the same, bonnet, roof line, wings etc? Are the windscreens different too?

Yes, rear number plate cutout is slightly more inclined and has a pair of lights above it.

Also, I believe the 'A' pillar trim is body coloured and the swage lines on the roof extend all the way forward on the later cars?

I have a 4.5 '98 car which has been modified to have the best of both versions biggrin

But it's all down to personal taste.

Body is not the same. As has been mentioned, there is a number plate recess on the mk2 and no recess on mk1 (Mk1 requires backlit number plate). Also, roof is different. On the mk2 the rails in the roof extend almost to the windscreen. Mk1 the roof rails stop some way short of the windscreen.

And, going by this thread...
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing//topic.asp?h=0&...
...amongst other debateable items, a flatter profile to the forward roof hoop.

Any chance of a photo of your car with the noted mods?

Cheers

Recessed number plate and the TVR (actually Land Rover) lights

Headlight conversion

Roof swage line (if you look hard at the top of the 'A' pillar you can see the profile)

That is a Mk2.1 with the sloping rear plate... I have a 2000 MK2 where the plate is as per the MK1 and the 4 pod rear lights however it has got the newer A pillars and roofline/Tuscan seats/Spiders(till I changed them)
