Why close the Rio thread?

The Rio thread in the Lounge was started because no one was contributing to the one in the Sports section. It had more posts this afternoon than the other one had in weeks.

Meanwhile in the bastion of right-wing sentiment that is NP+E there are no fewer that 8 threads all to do with the EU/brexit on the first (small) page and this is after the broad sword of Internet moderation had been through it.

Why be so heavy handed over one thread? I'll send you the 2 pence worth of data storage that was costing you if you like?

Sports threads go in the sports forum only, the Lounge is only a catch all for threads that don't have dedicated forums.
