Comparing performance of HL ISA stocks + shares.
Discussion
I don't understand the issue here. On the HL website you can compare the performance of one fund against another quite easily, as you can at Trustnet or Fidelity. Probably Morningstar too.
Remember, when comparing fund performance your own CASH performance is irrelevant. Just look at the percentage movement of each fund over the same time period.
Back to HL - if this link works you should see a comparison of Artemis Income against JOHambro UK Equity Income. You can use the tabs across the bottom to choose your timeframe and there's a button to switch between % and £,

So I guess my main frustration is not with the functional availability of the information.
It more comes down to the user experience.....
It is possible to conduct the comparisons that I want. But drilling down into the reasons why one fund outperformed another is still out of reach unless I want to devote some serious time.
Something that makes this easier and brings it up to par with the user experience we have come to expect in other industries would be incredibly useful to me.
The HL homepage displays performance since purchase - hopefully all your picks will go up eventually. What I am more focussed on is holding on to the 'good' stocks for as long as possible while ditching the 'bad' ones as soon as its realistic. Having a web tool or similar that allowed me to see this information while still leaving the decision in my own hands would be attractive and something that I would be happy to pay for.
I guess it comes down to how hands on you want to be with your investments. It's a sliding scale between trackers, managed funds and share picks. Something that let me feel more 'hands on' while leaving the day to day decisions with a professional manager would be a win in my book.
Given the number of customers with HL you'd have thought they might spend a bit more time on UX and 'delight'.

That's investing.IMO the reality is that "why things happened in the past" doesn't have very much relevance for investment decisions if you are buying funds. One hopes to have confidence in the fund manager, and comparative past performance is very relevant to that confidence. However, I don't really care "why" the performance was whatever it was; I simply care "that" the performance was whatever it was.
Having said that, HL do give quite detailed information about what a manager has been up to - example on this link,
http://www.hl.co.uk/funds/research-and-news/fund-n...
As a DIY investor without the time to actively trade I often decide which areas I want exposure to and find an ETF or fund that aligns with those decisions. That way I get to act on my gut feelings by benefit from a professional keeping the day to day management under control.
There may, however, be a number of funds that focus on that area. Being able to bring those up and directly compare holdings, fees and other management information in an intuitive way is still difficult. To achieve this on HL requires over 30 different clicks and completely misses any information on holdings - something that I am most interested in.
