I ordered my wife a new Apple Watch the other day that, due to being the new model, has been dispatched to me here in Essex directly from the factory in China. Just had a look at the UPS tracking info and it appears to be making an epic journey (mostly) toward the west, with delivery still scheduled for tomorrow. What a crazy route! Would love to understand just how these huge courier firms work and why it's taken the route it has. I may be particularly sad, but I find it very interesting. hehe Take a look at its journey so far (it's far better traveled than I am!):

Poland is UPS's EU Hub I think? A mate flies shuttle for them from Warsaw to East Midlands airport Every night!

Why North Korea and Kazakhstan I have no idea. hehe

Not sure. I'm pretty near Stansted (and they do get UPS aircraft), but will update in the morning for those who are as excited as me. rofl

Koeln will normally go into EMA, Stanstead is usually for inbound planes from Philidelphia though depending on volume Stanstead will handle anything.

It looks like it's possible on the Expedited service & goes via those stopping points to drop/collect air cans en route to Europe. Express service will go direct from China to Koeln (2 day)

Once had a set of wheels sent from a French client that seemed to be taking a while to arrive... A check of the tracking number showed they'd gone via Bolivia!

Then I found out that the French parcel company was a part of DPD and it all made sense

I posted a manual to a geezer in Denmark. It didn't arrive so I refunded him. About a month later he got in touch & said it had arrived, with various stamps from Australia on it. I'd like to know what route that had been on!

I ordered from Adidas.co.uk

It comes via Germany. Got to about 5 miles from my house, then went to Birmingham only to come back.

I say come back, it went missing for a few days! Some chancer at UPS hoping I wouldn't notice and forget. He delivered it in his own car at about 10pm.

I always like looking up the place of origin on Google maps, especially stuff from China/HK etc...

Streetviewing the exact building is pretty cool as well.
