I've been quoted 400 quid +VAT to have a pump proving switch replaced on my Valliant combi boiler. I'm told it comes as a kit. Sounds extortionate to me. Does anyone know if this is about right?

That's supply and fit BTW.

Can you not just order the part and fit it yourself?

The part is going to be around £45 I would think and I bet it takes no longer than 30 mins to fit as an amateur, being part of the pump it will be easy to get to I am sure.

It's a rented property and I'm not around so no, not practical. Apart from which I wouldn't know where to start. I don't mind paying reasonable money to get it fixed but £500 odd for a switch is insane. I'm guessing they are either including the pump itself or taking me for a ride on the labour. Think I'll get a quote from another plumber.

Why not just get another plumber in and get a second quote to see if it is expensive or not?

Why doesn't the landlord sort this out?

That`s quite a lot of assumptions without knowing the model of the boiler.

Yup that's what I think I'll do. Just a hassle trying to organise one. Took a week to get this one on site.

Sensor here for £33 (I assume this is what they are calling the pump proving switch):

Pump here for £183:

I'm guessing they're including the pump so I've asked them to confirm and if so why.

Right, That sensor is a common fail point with vaillants so common that I carry a couple in the van, they take about five minuets to fit and if you are being asked for more than £100 and you are not living on Sark then you are being bent over.

Absolutely agree, same part went on ours - the boiler shuts down when it doesn't sense the pressure increase from the pump starting. Simple drain down and swap.
