yep leave ours connected to mains to keep battery topped up and fill water tanks from our outside tap but we only use tank water for washing up etc and use bottled water to drink as I don,t trust the cleanliness of an onboard water tank. I only got our MH a few months ago so still on a learning curve same as you but a lot of good friendly advice in here. Congrats on your new van enjoy.thumbup

There is a nature filter fitted for drinking water luckily
just working our way around things see what is where and how it all works at the moment.
been through the Gaslow system and found all the adapters for LPG filling.
solar panel and Sat TV sussed out.
there is a cracked Fog light it is going back in for (missed on PDI)
looking forward to trying it out asap.

Just a cautionary note, if you leave your van on hook up anywhere, and you have a cooker with an electric hot plate/ ring.
Make sure you don't leave anything on top of the glass cover and double check all the controls are fully off.

I think if you were going to connect up to the mains for any length of time, I'd put the supply on a timer, maybe 6 hours a day or so, rather than it be on 24/7 without any drain of power.

Fill up water tank from normal hosepipe (after running some fresh water through it first), use on board tank for drinking too, but then I did a proper clean of it this year, with sanitizing stuff and lots of rinsing.

If our motor home is at home we only leave it plugged into the mains the night before we set off anywhere to get the fridge to temperature. As for water, that's from an outside tap but through a hose we only use for the van. We also drop a couple of purification tablets into the tank too, although SWMBO prefers bottled water for drinking. We do use the main tank for washing, dishes etc.

This is also what we do and it works just fine.

One thing for all you MH'ers to consider as well is not just sanitising your fresh water tanks but also descaling them and the grey tanks.

If you have probes which sit in the water to measure depth then these do scale up and will start to go haywire giving false readings. My MH was 4 years old when I had to replace the fresh water robes because the previous owner had not descaled. There was around 0.5cm of thick, hard limescale on it...so hard I couldnt crumble it off by hand!

Never have a problem with limescale, we live in a very soft water area. A half full tank (which is what we normally travel with) topped up on site of we're staying anywhere longer than a couple of nights has never given us any problems.
