We have a toddler and I've wondered what people do when the weather is inclement and child goes to sleep. Ideally they would sleep and we would still have a portion of a van to use - watch TV, make coffee etc without disturbing them. I quite like the idea of vans with beds over the garage but we'd want to use that!
I did lots of holidays as a kid in a sherpa and various VWs but they all had bunks in the elevating roof so we went up there. I think we were a bit older too.
I like the look of the t class hymer or the older a classes on another thread.
Its far from unsurmountable but just wondered what people have done?

We have an overcab bed so the kids (2 and 4) go to sleep on the rear double, over the garage. We have a door we can shut that divides the MH in to 2 for sound insulation.

Another option is pitching a tent or awning. We carry a 4 berth tent that we use as additional seating space/lounge/play area during the day and can use for sitting/films etc during the evening.

We managed 2 holidays this year in our SWB VW T5 with 4 year old twins. They slept in the popup roof, we slept in the main fold out bed. Watched TV/Movies on the laptop with earphones when they slept. Will get an awning/tent system for next year as when it rained it was a bit tight on space, plus need the space to dump shoes etc.

We own an old, old A-Class RMB Mercedes with a drop-down double and an over-garage fixed rear bed, plus a single settee / bed.

Our 5 year-old and 14 year-old sleep on the settee / over cab beds and we have the larger fixed rear.

Bedtimes aren't a problem as we rarely use the TV and can get into our bed and read / iPad quietly if needed whilst the cherubs sleep, or we sit outside and gaze at stars and chat.

Our children think of this as one huge adventure and rarely adhere to home-type bedtimes, so they're generally up later at night. This gives us more chance to sit on the settee or outside and / or to chat away as a family or play silly games. It works for us.

If our cherubs are seriously tired, they'll go to sleep quickly and not much will wake them anyway.

If you're talking daytime sleeping, then I'd place them in your bed or whichever is farthest away from your living space.

Our kids were quite young when we had our MH, they used to sleep in the overcab bunk & we used to draw the curtains across so we could watch TV quietly or play cards or whatever just beneath them without disturbing them too much.

The 1st night was always fun, they would be little monkeys for a while but it was always part of the adventure!

We have 2 kids and went for CI 656 with bunk beds.

We seal them off down one end and have 90% of the motorhome left for us after 8pm or so.

The bottom bunk folds up to make a larger garage if you only wanted to use the top one for a child. (It also has a net to keep them where they should be)

We have a relatively small Hymer B640 and one nearly 4yr old daughter.

She used to sleep on the sofa in the living area and the Missus and I would retire to the cab behind the curtain so as not to disturb her. But we quickly found that

a) the is the coldest part of the van in the winter; and
b) the hab area is designed to be lounged in.

So we now stick the little'un in the pull down double over the cab and either transfer her onto the Sofa bed once we go to bed or she stays in the overcab and sleeps with my missus whilst I sleep on the sofa. Not like there's any how's your father anyway when on tour.........at least not for me!

Even with the small van, we work it out. In the summer, we obviously spend the evening outside and therefore issue is easily solved.

But as someone else said, she views it as such an adventure that normal bedtimes don't really count anyway.

This.

Two sleep over the garage, and the other either goes off in the over can while we read/drink etc on the dinette bed that we've partially made up or outside. Now the eldest is nine we often go to bed and read for a bit (him on the dinette, us on the over cab), and often o to sleep at the same time as him.

Thanks all. Summer time wouldn't be an issue as has been said its this time of year that made we wonder.
I like the bunks option on the CI656, not seen that before. Only issue is that it then limits your garage use or it needs emptying.
Just wondered if I'd missed the obvious. First nights away anywhere with a small one is always fun but get them properly tired and it limits the hassle.
I shall give it some thought.

With bunks you seriously limit the market if you ever decide to sell on . . .

There is a bit of space under the lower bunk for storage. Depends what you want to store in the garage.

I have table, chairs, spare wheel, storage boxes for other items, kids games, tools, wheel ramps etc under ours.

Also has an access point inside.
