When you stand in a small square shower cubicle you effectively occupy a circle in the centre and the space in each corner is wasted. Why then are the controls and riser inevitably fitted on one of the flat surfaces rather than in the corner which would give more room to move about.

Mainly because people inevitably stand facing the shower head when showering, if you put the shower in corner of a square enclosure all people would do is turn 45deg to stand in front of it, nothing to gain really, plus it look s odd, and very few, if any showers are specifically made to go into a corner, would be a nightmare to plumb up too!

Clearly if you wanted to put the shower and controls in the corner you'd need to build out a 45 degree face for the controls and head to be mounted to, that or you'd have the controls flat on a wall but shuffled into the corner oddly...

I'm an oddity, then, as I'm almost exclusively a back-to-the-shower kind of guy.

There you have it.

I deliberately fitted my shower controls in the corner, next to the door. Mostly that was to avoid getting a load of cold water on my arm when I switched the shower on, but it does mean there's more room to move about I guess.

I always fit the controls out of the way of the head when possible , it's just common sense these days with separate controls , but most people either remember their mums house or the lazy plumber does the littlest amount of pipe work possible .
