Help sorting my grass
Discussion
Hi everyone, this year I'm finally looking to sort out my grass which is full of moss and weeds. My plans as of this week are as follows
-Cut grass high
-apply Lawnsmith Green-Up Ferrous Sulphate
-leave 3 weeks
-cut grass short
-rake up dead moss
-apply Lawnsmith Green-Up Ferrous Sulphate
-leave 1 week
-scarify and rake remains
-overseed with a mix of Lawnsmith SHADYGREEN Grass Seed and Lawnsmith Starter Lawn Fertiliser
Questions are
Can I use the shady seed all over, even in non shady sections?
Do I mix the seeds and fertiliser 50/50?
Do I need to apply compost on top of the seeds/fertiliser?
Also when/how do I tackle the weeds?
Here is my current situation

£5 per month.
It's the best £5 per month you'll spend, worth every penny in my view.

Have a look back through the 2016 lawn thread, there is some good advice on there. If you've found Lawnsmith you're on the right path, lots of good advice on that website.-Cut grass high

Can I use the shady seed all over, even in non shady sections? - My understanding is yes
Do I mix the seeds and fertiliser 50/50? - I usually apply them separately, fertiliser first
Do I need to apply compost on top of the seeds/fertiliser? - No, but you will need to water the seed regularly
Also when/how do I tackle the weeds? - There is good advice on Lawnsmith about this. I use two types of weedkiller, one in a sparay bottle for spot treatment in Spring/autumn and the other for a full treatment in the summer, when all the weeds will have germinated. Whatever you do, wait until your new grass has established before attacking with weedkiller.

Funny you should say that as I've just received a quote from them today. £17 a month for their standard package with scarification and aeration. Don't think that includes over seeding though.
Mine is £19, and worth every penny. The lawn in almost six years old now, there are no weeds or moss at all, and it hasn't needed any re-seeding either.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
