Coilover Setup - Audi R8

Looking for some guidance if possible... I have purchased some aftermarket BC coilovers from the States for my 2007 Audi R8 (to replace the problematic Mag Ride).

Issue I'm having is that they have been on the car for a few weeks and I [the garage] cant seem to get the set up right. Most notably the shock preload setup. Effectively the garage has been using preload to set the right height and I can only explain the current set up as mega bouncy and mega crashy. When going over a big bump it feels like a shotgun going off under the arch and I'm assuming this is intense rebound from the shock being loaded too much?

So, before I get them all taken off and the preload completely removed (and ride height adjusted through the shock). Can someone give me guidance on the best set up possible? I will be 99% of the time road driving with some fast back road driving as well. So would like it comfortable but not too bouncy.

There are 32 damper settings so my thoughts are lower car to just below standard ride height, remove all preload and firm the dampers up 10 clicks at the front [from full soft] and 16 at the back. Help?

With just a quick look at the BC site

,Ride height adjustment

Ride height is determined by the position of the coilover bottom mount. The mount can be wound up and down the damper body to give a full range of adjustment from near standard ride height to so low it wouldn’t be drivable on the road.

Because ride height is determined by an adjustable bottom mount rather than spring platform you retain full damper travel regardless of the ride height run.

I'm not familiar with this set up. But, The spring being compressed by the platform being raised, will reduce droop and possibly damage the damper internals when at full extension if the spring is massively compressed.

I'm sure someone will be along with more experience of this type of damper set up

Preload on the spring should mean the two middle locking collars 'pinch' the spring in place slightly with no load on the shock. So completely release the spring so it's loose (with it off the car), then move the collar to the bottom of the spring. Lock it in place with the adjacent locking collar. Then as mentioned the ride height is then determined by loosening the lowest collar and rotating the whole shock assembly while the mount to the hub/knuckle remains stationary.

I've got a set on my M5 and had on two previous cars. Ride quality seemed very good, only slightly stiffer than standard and handles rough roads quite well. Forgiving on low damper settings for daily use.
