Lidl has the Parkside saw on offer this coming Thursday 27th Apr. I clearly know it's not going to be as good as a Bosch/Dewalt/Makita/other brand.... but what do the assembled masses think about it for general house DIY duties?

I'll be knocking up timber framed partitions, making a wooden framed greenhouse, repairing wooden out-buildings etc, so it's not going to be used to cut balsa wood and would be put to some 'reasonably' heavy duty work. But at £79.99 and a 3 year warranty, what's not to like?

If not this one, what else is recommended without spending £300?

My brother has that one and for the cash it's great. One thing i would have liked is more cutting height.

The evolution ones are supposed to be pretty decent. The orange not the b&q green ones.

I've got one, you'll want to set it up so you can support and clamp using saw horses, the inbuilt clamps foul on the saw head when its sliding back and fore, but it's a clean accurate cutting machine and I love it.

58mm cutting height. If you're using 3x3 or larger stock then get something bigger. Otherwise I'm sure it will be fine.

If you're cutting lots of long stock then I'd invest in a proper stand with support arms or ensure you have appropriate saw horses at the right height to support the stock.

This one is great. Cuts through anything - wood, plastic, nails, steel - albeit twice the price.

Ive had a scheppach table saw for 15 years and its decent kit. You may find the 210 blade on the lidl one restrictive if you need to cut larger timber as it will only do 58mm

I've got a few Lidl tools, generally stuff that I don't use so much and I've been seriously impressed with the quality of them so no reason their mitre saw shouldn't be as good.

Main thing I'd say though is you might find the 210mm blade size a bit limiting, I've got a 255mm (Makita) and on occasion (cutting 10cm square fence posts for a deck) I wouldn't have minded something even bigger e.g. 305mm.

Check out the Evolution tools ebay outlet. They sell 'refurbished' stock thought there.

Just bought a 'grade C' Rage 3 - 255mm for £72, it's great, it's barley been used, and only the dust bag accessory was missing.
