anyone know of someone who could bend some aluminium to make a scoop for the side of the marlin?

It needs to be split in two due to the curve of the bonnet hence why no off-the-shelf product will help. At the moment I can only find one company (Aston workshop) who suggest they can help, but I have a feeling when I get their quote it'll be out of my budget.

Cheers

picture? - can't quite work out the "split"

any small engineering firm should be able to help, but depends on exactly what shape

shows the carb mouths, about 1/2" will need to be trimmed from the side panel to allow the 4" filters to poke through uninhibited.

the shape needs to me moulded into the the curve of the bonnet in this pic.

There are a few places that would do it in fibre glass but that costs £££ due to the length of time, I'm hoping the Aston garage call tommorrow with a reasonable offer, but personally I doubt it - it's not an Aston Martin I might try the new owners of YKC and see what they can offer (the guys who make the Roadster now).

I don't know if you saw the pictures of my garden, but when I get the workshop set up, that would be a neat little job for the weekend!

It won't be for a while yet, so I'll have to pass on this occasion.

I'm not to clear though if you want a square cornered scoop, or a half cylinder with a quarter of a sphere at the end. Obviously the first option is likely to be the cheapest, the second more expensive.

If you go for the first option they might be able to make it just using a folding machine, but if it's the latter they'll probably need to make a former over which they can beat the sheet.

The former will be the expensive part, but it's dead simple to do. Just start with a block of wood, and set to work with a plane, chisels, surform and sandpaper. It just takes patience, and it's so cheap that if you get it wrong you can just throw it away. The expensive part is the patience.

It all starts from a drawing.

Stefan,

I know a bloke who may be able to do one in either carbon fibre or fibre glass. ( he may also be able to make you an aluminium one). Ex aircraft industry trained, so if he can knock up a jumbo-jet out of old coke cans,, I reckon he'll be able to sort you out.

Give me a bell, or e-mail me for details......

Aston Workshop just called, they quoted £1,551 to modify the side panel, bonnet, make a scoop, fit and paint it all.

Thankfully the chap who rang understood why I wouldn't be doing that to a £2,000 car!

Bomb and I both know a bloke that could make something "pleasing to the eye" but he lives in Sweden.

If he made a bad job of it - Bomb could shout at him and slam the bonnet down on his hand

No it isn't - if you want, I could attend the next meet at Shafto's and give the full (unexpurgated)version

Okay - it might be the "blackal version" - but it would be worth it!

I have just finished the metal tray for the Guinea Pig cage. All hand-beaten of course.

Maybe I can move on to bonnet bulges ?

That's what Bomb affectionately calls his stomach!
