Hello Everyone,

My Ozzie mate is going to buy my TVR Chimaera 4.0l, however he is finding it really hard to get a realistic figure in relation to insurance. He has been quoted upwards of 3k!! He is 35 and has been driving in this country for 3 years and has had no convictions or crashes. Surely there must be cheaper out there, can anybody help?

A lot can do with location/garage/No Claims Bonus.

He should try the TVR companies like Sunninghill/Peart to gauge the response.

Sunninghill are on +44 (0) 1276 486086

however they didn't fill me with much confidence...

Quote for Chimaera 4.3 1993 @ £13,000 6yrs NCB etc £993

My current insurers: A.Manning (phoned also just now)

Quote for Chimaera 4.3 1993 @ £13,000 6yrs NCB etc £698

Guess which one I'd be going with

Im currently with mannings and my renewel is more expensive than sunninghil by 33 quid. and the worse bit is mannings are prepared to loose 600 odd quid for the sake of 33, mad I think. im a bit unsure what to do now.

I was with NU Direct lastyear they quoted me 1000 this year they quoted me £1340. Asked them if they'd reduce it to near my best quote at the time, 1100 and they said no way. Muppets they'd have got me if they had....

None of the specialists were interested in insuring me as I hadn't owned a 'performance' car before.

Best quote was (rather surprisingly) Tesco's. Direct Line were also competative but they wouldn't give me their internet discount if I contracted over the phone & their site kept on crashing so took my buisness elsewhere.

Both will quote over the internet

This could be one compensation for reaching 30 years of age, as I did last month. My insurance for a garaged 98 Chim 400 with 7 years noclaims was just under £900 this year.

Hopefully now that I'm an old codger, it'll be tuppence ha'penny and a packet of wurthers originals.

Nope unlimited inc commuting I was quite pleasantly suprised as the Puma costs me about £400 anyway.

Yup, sounds like the one that phoned after I'd bought the policy saying that he couldn't continue to provide the free RAC cover as the car was now over 8 yrs old.
BTW Tesco's don't seem to recognise a 4.3 Chimaera.

By the way guys on a totally different subject what would you say a 97/P 4.0l with 51K on the clock would be worth? I'm getting 13-14K back? They cant have depreciated that much can they?
