Trivial this one, but annoying.

I put up a set of net curtains yesterday. Nothing special or heavy, just 4m of material to fill a 2m wide window. I used an extending pole rather than wire, and as the windows are UPVC I bought some stick on hooks. All good. I had to use 3 as the pole was bending in the middle, so used one one to hold it up. It fell down at around 5am this morning hehe

So I am now wondering what else I could do to keep this net curtain up, rather than on the floor. Any suggestions?

Lots of jokes in the above, I am sure! biggrin

Watching this with interest as i've had a similar issue, I used 5 hooks b ut this morning my 3 year old daughter managed to pull it completely down bending the pole. So I could resort to old method but I bet there is a better way.

use wire and some 3M command hooks, something like:

You can drill into PVC, just use normal rail fixings.

Why not just use the traditional screw hooks and spring wire confused very cheap.

Did you clean the upvc before sticking the hooks on? If not surprised it lasted to 5am.

Use something like IPA or meths to clean the surface prior to the second attempt.

If you want to do it very securely, you can do what I've done - fit a rawl eyebolt (expanding bolt)

You need 12mm masonary drill bit.

Drill in side of wall, expand bolt, job done properly. I think it looks ok it's not very noticeable.

Sticking the hooks onto UPVC simply will not work. I have a 2.5m wide by 2m drop curtain & no sticky pad I could find would stay up more than a few months, especially in summer. Cleaning/degreasing the frame & hooks didn't help. The hooks I have had a hole in them so I just used a small self tapping screw & fixed the hook to the frame. Solid as a rock ever since.

There has to be a 'better' solution to the window dressing issue than 'net curtains' in 2017...

It is good for some situations, for example if you are a tenant, why spend more on blinds or shutters that won't fit your next property.

I'd prefer some removable window film...

Net curtains don't bother me. I do not particularly want people looking in my house from outside. Blinds would need to be open to let in light so pointless again.

I've had those expanding rods and hooks up for 2 years now in our 2.7 x 1.4m windows. They have one hook on each end and two supporting hooks in the middle. Had a nightmare getting them to stay on at first so ended up sandpapering the upvc and using super glue.

These are the end hooks: https://www.therange.co.uk/hardware/general-hardwa...
The middle ones are similar to these: https://www.therange.co.uk/furnishings/curtains-an...

You can get tension rods too so you don't need the end hooks but I couldn't find them big enough for our span.
