I'm sick to death of the electric free standing oven in my kitchen, it's either inferno or, well that's it.

I'm going to buy a dual fuel free standing unit (Gas hob, electric oven) and then resume my Master Chef attempts.

There's a gas pipe (?) with a bayonet fitting currently behind the old unit, coming out of the wall and I know a Gas safe engineer will need to come and plug it in and test for leaks, no problem there. But I can't for the life of me find out where this pipe goes, should there be an on/off valve to it or is it a demand type?

Or go for induction, much better and no gas pipes needed.

Bayonet gas valves only open when a hose is plugged into them.

Indeed - much better option. Although when we went from dual fuel to elec/induction we had to get an electrician in to hardwire a new connection. The old oven just plugged in but this one was over the 'limit'

Hadn't even considered that - will do some reading.

Thanks

induction hobs look nice and easy to clean. Downside, you'll probably need new pans to cook in and you are at the mercy of the electricity supply. We're pretty rural and prone to the odd prolonged power cut so I went for dual fuel and can still happily cook on the hob and boil a kettle of water when the 'lecky is down.
